Oh thank you, and imagine recreating the whole of Star Wars characters with such a thing.
An entire species of former whiny teenagers wearing black leather suits and respirators! Oh the horror?

Frankly, I'd be surprised if another person has EVER uttered the sentence "evolution is a simple search algorithm". You're probably taking a metaphor literally here. Who exactly set bacteria to search for.. what, exactly? Life does not 'look' to become more complex. Do you also believe a stalactite growing is a 'search algorithm'?

Never have been in a computer science class. I am in finance nowadays though, but it should be p easy to find people hating on evolution on youtube and I mean from a computational viewpoint

Oh it really is. I played 5 minutes of it and had enough, Peter Molyneux essentially ruined his own genre.

I'm glad I found this thread, I had no idea other people wanted a new SimEarth. The gap between Universe Sandbox and Spore is a giant one that deserves to be filled.

Spore had so much potential :(

It really did. Such a shame EA exists.

Spore's main problem is that it was marketed/hyped to the wrong people. It has some merits (as is attested to by its enduring popularity, and I could also share some personal anecdotes) but it's certainly does not belong in the direction of the hardcore gaming crowd.

There is no set of rules which we know of which evolution must follow, especially in the most primitive lifeforms. It has no direction, no purpose.

I think it's not correct. Evolution still follows the universal rule of physics for seeking the highest possible (dynamic) stability. In this way the organic and inorganic worlds show no difference as both are characterized by a pursuit for the highest stability.

Sometimes even the inorganic world shows evolution-like signs. Let's look at e.g. ice, it must not be a coincidence that ice is white which serves it's own stability by reflecting sunlight. It's very similar to how life develops attributes which supports it's stability (survival).
