I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to happen like that, but the "mini"-crisis came full blown while I was far less ready than in previous Stellaris iterations. My fleet battled almost to exhaustion, but I was on the losing side of this war. My alloy production wasn't enough to replace my ships and, slowly but surely, my economy was collapsing under the strain.
I eventually won two major battles against the Khan. In the second one, the guy died, but not before stealing to me a three habitable planets system. I was on my last ropes, thinking of retreating to a more defensible position, but I saw the event "succession crisis". Still, the Horde was as healthy as ever.
And then, I had an event establishing a "new" khanate (actually the second my troops were retaking my three planet system). To my surprise, this khanate was not at all hostile to me and was considered economicaly very weak, since he had only three planets.
I thought it would be sort of okay to let them keep my planets, but be my vassals. As if they were recognizing my greatness and I was granting them, after an hard war, a planet for them to live on.
And so, the New Dorbolan Khanate and the Union of Endrilian Worlds buried the war hatchet and entered in this new partnership.
I sold them like 1 unit of exotic gas per month in order for them to become obedient vassals. They only wanted a planet (or 3) to live on.
Still, is something like that WAD?
