Hi all, I thought I understood levy size but my numbers don't add up so I must be missing something.

I have 3 integrated populations below, pops are;
Total
489 / 129 / 144
Slaves
188 / 46 / 34

Leaving behind => (489+129+144) - (188+46+34) = 494

10% levy size would mean 49.4 cohorts, round down always, so 49 cohorts.
20 legion cohorts + 6 + 17 = 43
Missing 6 cohorts

I considered that the nobles in the 2 newly integrated pops shouldn't count as their rank isn't integrated?

494 - 10 - 25 = 459
= 45.9 => 45 cohorts

Still missing 2 cohorts even like this worse case scenario.

My legion is definitely 20 cohorts, including any 'support' that may be considered.

What am I missing oh wise ones? :)

I am not sure, but maybe you should round down for POP and culture.

Now you are adding all and then rounding down, 5 + 9 + 19 = 33 * 0,10 = 3,5 = 3. Total 3
If you do it as I say, 5 * 0,1 = 0,5 9 * 0,1 = 0,9, 19 * 0,1 = 1,9. Total 1.

Now yes.

Good idea but still no it seems;

489 - 188 = 30 cohorts
129 - 46 [-10 nobles?] = 8 or 7 cohorts
144 - 34 [-25 nobles?] = 11 or 8 cohorts

= 49 or 45 cohorts

I can have 20 (legion) + 6 (Greece) + 17 (Asia) = 43 cohorts

So my only guess now is the split of pop cultures within each of Greece and Asia (which I can't find anywhere easily?) is also getting rounded down.

I can see the culture screen, i can find the area map mode which shows total numbers and I can find pop culture split per settlement - any way of finding it per area without going through every settlement?

Are those your only two Regions? My first response was rounding as well. It looks like you started Cretan, so it isn't a broken heritage messing with the Levy Modifier either. Just to be sure, what are the sources of your Lev Modifier?

Unfortunately there isn't a good UI at the moment for # Pops elligible for Levy per Region, which would be really helpful in debugging these situations...

They are my only 2 regions yes.

Behold mighty Crete (it's my first game, shush) and the 10% modifier as a side-note

tbh - the entire question came about because Rome is pushing in very quickly and after looking at most other larger nations, their cohort : pop ratio was in a much better state than mine. I integrated Aegean and Ionian to help bump the numbers up but am still very, very far behind the others and am running out of ideas of how to stop the Roman menace :) [Aeolia is my client state]

My decision to not even bother trying to understand the inner workings is paying off. I am completely frustration free when using levies. :D
