This is why backups of my most commonly installed games is an absolute must, I've always appreciated the fact SF didn't throw a pita cd crack on there. I hate having to feel shadey to do something the back of the manual tells me is perfectly kosher.
Gl bro. I'd try a few ways of backing it up.. direct file copy, image.. maybe you'll get lucky I've had it happen albeit rarely (for example, maybe the image creator will do a better job with the scratch then the install program does and you can install from it). After you get the best backup you can you can go ahead and scrub it, microwave it, toothpaste, whatever the cdfixit sites recommend. If that doesn't work time to go bin divin
And after you find a new copy make yourself a nice backup cd and place the real copy in your great shrine... right next to the manual
Edit: Also I can sympathize, years ago I lost my Eu2 cd.. where do you think I got the backup paranoia from?
