1250 star galaxy, year 2540, Insane Difficulty, High Aggression, with mods that increase maximum fleet size, strength of Awakened Empires, and makes terraforming free (or - at least - I THINK that's what's happening, it might be a bug). There are almost 500 planets in my empire as a result of that, and I have a total population of well over 5000 pops of all species.

20170129125134_1.jpg

I have three fleets of about equal strength with what you see below, and a couple of smaller auxiliary fleets. I've almost topped out 9999 fleet power.

20170129125538_1.jpg

SOMEHOW I haven't gotten a domination victory yet. Not really sure how...

But that's fine, because the FEs are so absurdly overpowered that I can still barely match them even with all of what you see above.

20170129125606_1.jpg

(Yes, that's a fleet of FE Titans, literally stretching from one end of a solar system to another. The smaller vessels - of which there are hundreds, if not well over a thousand - aren't visible from this distance.)

20170129130543_1.jpg

Needless to say, this whole thing lags like an absolute mother. Window's Task Manager says that it basically takes up a third of both my CPU and available memory. lol

I sent my combined fleets to fight the AE you see above, and I actually won (surprisingly enough). Unfortunately, however, I couldn't watch the fireworks because it crashed the game every time I tried.

I had to just warp my ships in, hope for the best, and watch the numbers click by on the galaxy screen instead.

I think it's safe to say that I've pretty thoroughly "torture tested" the game at this point. This is BY FAR the longest and largest game I've played so far. :p

Holy **** the scale of your game is huge. Could you guess how long this took you to play out?

Oh, gheez... About a month? Maybe more? I think I started a little before Christmas.

To be fair, however, I've only really been playing sporadically ever since the lag started getting bad about a century or so ago. I've also started using the console to spawn ships just because waiting around for any significant number of the larger ones to build would literally take DAYS, real time, at this point (though it's really not that scummy, as my economy can still technically afford everything I build).

It's a shame, really. This game would probably be bad ass as Hell right now if it would run faster.

Also is that a mapmode mod?

Yessir.

OCD much.Game must have got very boring a long time before.

Must. CONQUER. EVERYTHING.

Must make the galaxy... Perfect...

Lol.

I've honestly only been playing in fits and spurts since the lag started. Basically, I come back once every week or so, when the inspiration comes upon me, and I play long enough to conquer another empire, or polish up some new sector.

I make a point - for RP purposes - of segregating conquered species into their own sectors, confining them to their worlds, and then colonizing all the habitable worlds they haven't taken yet with my founder species. That's why 50% of my population is Terran in spite of the size of empire.

The AEs are also still around, so there's still a bit of challenge in trying to mass a large enough fleet to kill them.

One day I want to see a grand multiplayer game in a massive galaxy with lots and lots and lots of players. It could make for EVE-level intrigue, AARs and livestreams.

Woohoo! Just managed to polish off the green AE with the mega fleet pictured above (really two AEs, because one conquered another on the other side of the galaxy in a War in the Heavens event) this evening.

20170130194406_1.jpg

Had to be a bit tricksy to accomplish this. Building a fleet large enough to take on all those FE titans head on LITERALLY isn't possible without the game freezing entirely, so I took advantage of how they were stretched across the system to envelop one flank with all three of my fleets where it couldn't be supported by the other flank or center of their own fleet.

20170129130108_1.jpg

That was enough to send them into disarray. While I couldn't watch the battle without the game crashing, I was able to occasionally pop in and get some decent stills.

Ultimately my casualties weren't even all that bad - Just around 20 or 30 corvettes per fleet, a few Titans/Leviathans, my Flagship, most of my dreadnoughts (those don't seem to be very survivable, for some reason), and a smattering of cruisers, destroyers, and battleships here and there.

Funny how a simple change of tactics can make such a difference. Taking the fleet on directly, I was slaughtered to the last ship, and had to reload.

One day I want to see a grand multiplayer game in a massive galaxy with lots and lots and lots of players. It could make for EVE-level intrigue, AARs and livestreams.

Current mechanics does not make for good MP experience with many players. It's very hard to make a comeback after suffering even one loss as it is.

Also the lobby (or rather lack thereof) is absolute hell compared to EU4 or HOI when you try to organize many players.
I was itching to organize a 20+ player MP for utopia when someone reminded me that fact to me.
