Hello to everyone,

Here is a little introduction of my self: I'm playing to HOI4 from the D-Day release of the game and I have 432 hours on it. IRL I'm a french student in history of 21 years old and that's why my english is a crap. I am in a master degree of Byzantine History and when I read that Byzantium could be (re)form with Greece I bought the "Waking Tiger DLC" as soon as I could.

I'm writing this post to share the strategy used to get the achievement. To be honest it's kinda tricky. - I have to mention that I'm not very good in HOI4 -.

But first thing first: here is what my little Byzantium looks like in march 1942, a few hours after its proclamation.

20180316014540_1.jpg

I know it's writing in French but you might be able to get the most important informations I'm showing you here

I had to start from scratch four times before to bring it off but I finally find a path which might works for everyone.

I- Empowering you country

1. Factories

Well it's pretty simple. Concerning your 8 little and pathetic civilian factories (CF) you just have to build military factories (MF). You own 4 MF in january 1936, it pretty sucks, for sure. One of those MF will be assigned to product support equipment, two to Infantery equipment and the last one to transport plane. You dont have to look for oil and rubber, just product those planes with penalty: it's not such a big issue.

2. Research
For your research there is nothing special to do except it:
  • You have to rush for fighter 1 and paratroopers. Very important pour your future expansion.

3. National Tree
You have to look for the political branch until you get Militarism. Yes sorry but you have to turn fascist and go for the 7% recruitable pop (RP). It's higly recommanded to use the new mechanic to increase fascist popularity. I waited for my fascist popularity to reach the 42% to "blame the governement" and then call for a refenredum. It costs some point but well, you need to be fascist before worldtension (WT) is too high.

> First advisor to increase fascism and then military staff.
OH you want a good news? Well, Greece is such a little nation full of farmers and fishers that you cant even hire a company for your tank.

II. First Moves

Once you turn fascist, you'll have to claim your first neighbour land. - by the way, go for industry developement and maybe, take the developping doctrine from time to time but it's very important to developp your industry -

During my first game I rushed for Turkey and Bulgaria but it was an error: you have to go for Yougoslavia first. Reason is simple. The country is pretty weak and still have some penalties in military and politic. Strike while they are weak!

The main problem is the following one: King Paul has a larger army (>20 division when I attacked it) and you'll have to cross mountains. But you have two advantages:
  • You're not an AI
  • You have a naval force: he does not, not even a kayak.
So, how to beat him hollow? You'll use your fucking goddamn paratroopers. You'll train 6 division of them - so no more mountainers which need to be disband, otherwise you won't be allowed to train your fucking goddamn paratroopers of the death.

Add to your Para divisions engineers and artillery: they'll need to hold their position.

By claming the King Paul's Lands and gathering your infantery troops on his border (you'll need around 15/18 divisions of infantery with some artillery), Paul will send around 85% of his army on the border.

Now that you claim is finished you can declare war. To defeat the yougoslavian army you'll cut it from any source of supply. Now you must understand what your para's mission wil be. However it's a bit tricky. Paul has a huge air force (around a hundred). Even if you producted fighter from Day 1 you wouldn't be able to assure 70% of air superiority. So use your transport and drop each para on a different province, from the little harbor near the albanian border to the province near Sofia. There are only 5 provinces but better to assure it with 6 para.

When you'll declare war, Paul wont have the time to to send his planes and here it is. His whole army is surrounded by your force: time for you to crush it and win the war.
  • For the Peace Deal I advise you to claimall the lands. I tried to puppet everything : Croatia/Montenegro/Slovenia/Serbia but take toolongto integreate them..
  • I didnt try to puppet the whole Yougoslavia but I think it's better to take lands in order to double your factories..

III. The next?
Well to be honest, you almost did everything... No, am joking: be ready to suffer. Your next step will be to retake CONTANTINOPLE from Mustafa Attakebab.

You know have a correct production, a far superior airfore but a weak naval... How beat the Kebab succesfully? Well... pretty easy.. Group around 15 divsions to your border with Istambul + 5 others for the two little and poor islands inhabited by sheeps and chicks: Izmir is almost no defended and you can invade them by the islands pretty easily. Try to have some infantery training during all the war.

However dont forget he has a better naval fleet. It means he will invade you and if you lose Athens you lose the war. My advice? Beat the AI.
Form some useless troops like cavalery to keep your greek shores safe (you wont need more than 10.
It means all your new balkanic shores are empty so Mustafa will send so maaany troops there it will clear out his country of annoying division. Meanwhile he is ending his troops there your thracian army will easily take Constantinople and you'll even be able to cross the straight. With you 5 others divisions you can try to form a new front around Izmir to reduce pression around the straight.

It's not very important if you lose Balkans because they're not cored so you won't lose victory points. Send some ou your infanteries you were training around Skopje in order to keep Greece safe.

Honnestly this war is pretty boring. Both of you have a little army and you're not able to field every province of the battlefront. It's a lot of micro managing and a run for capturing cities and holding them.

You should win this war without losing too many manpower. Anyway, i'm advising you to take fire arm doctrin - am not sure of its english name -

I'm personally spliting my INF divisions in three:
  1. A large division of 9 INF. Support: engineers / ART / Anti-tank / hospital
  2. A division of 6 INF + 3 ART. Spport: engineers / Anti-tank / reckon / hospital
  3. A division of 6 INF + 3 anti-tank. Support: engineers / ART / reckon / hospital
I played without tanks and CAS for this game.

After Turkey WT wil be too high (which means over 25) and you'll have to adapt... However with some luck you can attack Bulgaria and no one will garantee them. If no one help them, you'll be able to defeat them witout breaking a sweat: congrats !

Albania will be annexed by Italy and Romania by Germany or Hungary so here is when you turn communist and join the Kominterm. Meanwhile, feel free to build bunkers; training division to fill your borders and wait.

When they'll attack you, you'll certainly be forced to go back but they'll lose so many men they will be out of manpower and you'll be able to reconquer your lost lands and add Albania and Romanian lands. You only need to occupy them to proclaim Byzantium.

The only thing to care about is the Romanian shores on the black sea. If Romania joined the Allied and not the Polish useless faction, England will try to invade again and again :you don't want them to reconquer Romania! Keep those lands, they are yours.

I know it's in french but just take a look of the Axis casualties in the attached files : 30 of them die for every of mine: just crazy.

By doing it you'll have a ridiculus amout of manpower and win the game. I didnt finish this game but am pretty sure a WC wuld be very easy now.

My only regret is to drop the non-aligned governement but it would be so difficult to do it withoutthe facism mechanics...

Anyway, hope you enjoyed it and sorry about my crappy english. ;)
