I don't know what the mechanic here would be, but I should be able to pay off some government official somewhere to alter my reputation with a faction.

Maybe 100,000 CBills per point? Or, 50K? Dunno. If a mission makes me 300K in cash and salvage but lowers my rep by 5, then the cost to get that rep back should be substantially more than 300K.

The only mechanism I can think about now is that when you get the warning that your rep is low (or making an enemy with a faction), add a little "Bribe" button to the popup. Then I can smooth over my relations with that faction then.

Or a event that triggers when my reputation is about to drop a bucket (indifferent to disliked, etc...)

Thoughts?

Kind of like the events that trigger when a faction is filing a complaint and you have to sit down with the Merc board and the faction bringing the complaint, another event could trigger with a "We're going to file a complaint about your behavior against us... but we could look past this problem... for a price"
1. Pay 100k c-bills (no change but no complaint filed)
2. Pay 500k c-bills (increase faction rep by 5)
3. Pay nothing (consequences tbd)

something like that?

I could see a way by 'sending away' mechwarriors with the 'X nobility' or 'diplomat' traits - or in case of pirates: the 'pirate' background to have talks with their representatives to iron out relations a bit. Pilots will be unavailable for some time like a month. Maybe with random stuff happening like increasing or decreasing relations, Having offered the services of a house's pilot or one-time faction store/black market access. This could encourage players to take a closer look at the hiring hall and go for a plethora of different characters and not for the 4 main stats. Also, traits get a bit more use that way. Diplomate trait could work anywhere, but weaker than matching house affilation.

I like the inclusion of more tags/traits from the pilots having more meaning.

Am I the only one that tries to get at many Tinkerers, MechTechs, and Technicians one can, just for the hopes of upgrading some of the standard items to + or ++'s for free? (well.. relatively free that is)

I would hope for them, that at least the mechanics would increase the mechbay tech rating. But you are right, some traits come with very positive events while most are 'meh' of a kind.
