Hello!

From what I am seeing here you are trying to ransom a character from a foreign country - in this case the modifers are intentional, as the AI should demand more gold from the player for skilled characters.

The values behind the mana do not corresspond 1:1 to the stat values, they just create negative AI reasoning, forcing you to offer more money to buy the character back. Given that a mere 15 gold gives you +20 AI reasoning, you should be able to overcome a -160 penalty by paying ~120 ducats (guessing here).
