Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I'm playing as Egypt. I'm at war with Phrygia, and my ruler dies. Primary heir inherits the throne, primary pretender forms an army. Use the option to make their army desert until the army is at 50% strength or so. Pretender then flees to Egypt. I get the event for them fleeing from my country, then the event where they are seeking asylum in my country, then the event that they got crucified by another country.
Luckily, Egypt losing opinion with Egypt does nothing, so I got quite a bit of benefit from getting both sides of this coin. That said, events saying stuff like "The ruler of Egypt did X!" are kinda silly, when that ruler is me.
The save file is not from right after the issue occurred.
