Game crashes upon nation selection or zooming in on the map.

The main menu and nation selection map load just fine, but the moment I zoom into the next "tier" of zoom on the map or press "Select" after picking a nation, the game freezes and then crashes.
Steps to reproduce the issue.
1. Load game
2. Start single-player campaign
3. Choose nation
4. Press "Select" or zoom in on the map
5. Crash
