Description of problem
Dictatorship event chain appears again even if one is ongoing with Princeps Law
What platform are you playing on?
Steam
What game version are you running?
1.0.2
Please select any/all DLC you have enabled.
Hellenistic world flavor pack,
Epirus flavor pack
Do you have mods enabled? No
Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
It seems like whenever a ruler has been appointed dictator, a war has ended, and the dictatorship hasn't been returned, the 'extended dictatorship/dictatorship returned' event can appear even if one of those event chains is already ongoing. This creates problems for players who want to pass Princeps Civitatis while saving on oratory power.
I think this is because the returning of power by a dictator removes the "dictatorship_enabled" variable, but nothing else does except the death of the dictator. This means if a player is really unlucky, they can stack several "extended dictatorship" modifiers until their character finally dies. Also, it doesn't really make sense for a dictator who has implemented the princeps law to ever go through the "return power" event.
I think a simple fix would be to just make the extended dictatorship event also remove the "dictatorship_enabled" variable. That way the country cannot get any dictators repeatedly grasping power and stacking that modifier and the dictator can't 'return power' while keeping princeps.
EDIT: Also this affects a ruler who hasn't been appointed dictator since appointing dictator only extends the consulship by a year. A new leader being elected should probably also remove the "dictatorship_enabled" variable.
Steps to reproduce the issue.
1. Appoint your ruler dictator and have them keep on to power.
2. Do not let anyone plot against your ruler and implement Princeps Civitatis when the event comes up.
3. Declare a new war and finish it.
4. Watch as you get a brand new dictatorship event, either the extended dictatorship or the returning of the dictatorship.
I have also included a save game that illustrates this.
1. Load the save game. Notice how you already have the extended dictatorship modifier.
2. Implement Princep Civitatis through the event.
3. Declare war on Sipontum and assault the fort to win ASAP. Sue for peace.
4. Unpause and get either a new extended dictatorship or the returning of the dictatorship.
