Deceitful consort event does not kill ruler

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Playing as Bactria and event chain started where my ruler suspects the consort to be plotting against him with murder, to put her son on the throne. I select the option to investigate the plot but is discovered and my consort and rules now hate each other. The event finishing event pops up that some soldier stabs my ruler at a party, and the consort proclaims the child as the new ruler. I select the first option to event which says my ruler will die.
The problem is my ruler does not die and the game keeps going like nothing happened.
