Kinda wondering how this game would be different from those mentioned in the title. I have Vic2 but havent gotten into it yet, but kinda know its nature. EU3 also seems dated, but that really doesnt matter for paradox games. Should I get EU3? Wait for EU4? Or dont bother? (dont expect this answer in the EU forum).

Thanks in advance.

I would say wait for EU4 as its coming out in Q3 and we just started Q2, hopefully at the beginning of Q3.

Compared to HoI it isn't solely based on warfare, and war is slower and you can't annex whole countries at once. As well you aren't bound by the 3 sides if you are a certain country.

Compared to CK2 instead of building a dynasty you now build a country. As well the CB system isn't as annoying as you don't need a CB anymore even though it is advised you have one due to the infamy reductions and the stability penalty.

If you can find EU3 for cheap i would get it because EU4 won't be a really good game probably at the very earliest Dec.

Hearts of iron 1 was my first game of this kind. I didnt like that much CK, mainly because of the interface. But EU3, I like it more than HOI2, and I like HOI2 a lot. The lack of military depth of HOI is compensated by the overall gameplay and, well, Europa universalis is the only game I still play. I played a lot of games. I think EU3 is maybe better that HOMM3. Maybe.

Actually, I want something like EU3, but different. Maybe more military action. Something between hearts of iron and europa universalis.

now you can buy EU3 cheap and at its best maturity point.... or wait to buy an EU4 in a desperate need for patches.
But sure, take it. EU3 is a must.

Get EU3 Chronicles on sale (gamersgate.com) they frequently go at a 75% discount.

EU4 will most likely need a lot of love before it's WAD, so in the meantime enjoy EU3 with the MEIOU mod. They're constantly updating and fixing it, and the map is awesome.

But if you get EU3 get used to Vanilla before you try any mods.
And not everyone will like the same mods; MEIOU may seem too different, or MM may be too hard, or Death and Taxes may be too easy, etc. Once you're ready for mods I recommend you try a lot of them yourself rather than asking everyone else what to try.

In my view, I would've most likely gotten EU3 had I waited until now as it's unique game in itself even if EU4 is considerably more different and/or advanced (depending on one's viewpoint). Naturally, as someone inclined towards history that also includes games itself, I wouldn't mind getting EU2 or any older versions of other Paradox games I play, but EU2 does not seem to be offered on Steam. Either it's been offered previously there only to be withdrawn later (perhaps due to its age or compatibility issues with newer PCs) or it was never offered there at all. *shrugs*
