There is more than one way to skin a cat, the player shouldn't be forced to spam supplies in order to get money.

Well, yes there are more ways to make money.

You can either:

1) Build more Factories (linked to Money production)
2) Enact Laws that are beneficial to money production.
3) Sell excess resources to other nations.
4) Some have suggested buying discounted resources from countries which you have high "relations" with, and selling them to countries with lower "relations".

And Like some have mentioned, when CG was linked to money it was quite ludicrous the amounts of money a nation could generate. I could easily end up with almost 10 000$ in spare money. And like some have mentioned, world economics are based on trade between countries. If a country could endlessly generate as much money internally then you'd see some weird things happening.

Hope this helps,

Im quite satisfied with 1.3; its very playable.

Still, I would like to have the limited war function fixed ASAP considering the fact Italy still overruns France because of the fact the thing is broken. I guess a working temporary solution would be to keep Italy and Japan out of the Axis at the start of the '39 scenario like in the first 2 HOI games.

yuk, what a horrible idea, straight out of the straight jacket brigades mouths.

I agree that it would be a good idea to take Japan and Italy out of the Axis before they we're acually in it IRL, if it's not to much trouble of course :)

I guess it would give some disabilities with maybe the allies keeping them from joining.

Other than that i'm fully enjoying the 1.3 patch and i appriciate the large ammount of time and efford put into it, thanks a lot for the patch! And looking forward to the next one

For me the first impression I get is that both on the side of details and also on the side on basical concepts, weird decisions were made. Some examples =

- if you go in diplo mode, your reactions pop up in the main screen - so you need to leave the diplo window and then go back and forth if you are doing some series of trade deals. Really really weird choice,

- you should have two options - open world game (like HOI3 is today) and - historical mode game (like HOI2 with still the variation in choices). Really Paradox should have been "smart" and implemented an open world game with the option of some straigthjacket - this shouldn't be that difficult to manage.

I wouldn't sack HOI3 right now, but some improvements from forthcoming patches are necessary. Put Paradox should be aware of the fact that a few months after HOI2 release I had loads of game fun already, and with HOI3 release it's very limited !

To me 1.3 is a major step forward and it seems a great idea to open up a public beta test in the tech forums for something like this.

Some people seem to be over-romanticizing the games of the past, as I had loads of issues when they were first released. I still remember my constant crashes from EU2, which now seem comical in comparison.

That said, I'm not a big "open" history type guy, so I lament the loss of some of the earlier feeling.
I agree, I love the amount of provinces, the research, the leadership system, how divisions are built up from brigades and many other things but I am missing some of the WW2 feeling that I had with HOI 2. For me it's more of an AI behaviour thing. Some how I don't recognize the bad guys any longer.

Well, IRL Italy and Japan were in the Axis like depicted in the '39 scenario (through the anti-comintern pact), and the limited war function was supposed to simulate the fact that though they were in the same alliance, they weren't involved in eachothers wars, unlike all the other alliances.

In 1.3 the problem is that Italy won't attack France at all. I haven't seen them get involved until they DOW Greece.

As plasticpanzers sayed in his great post:
This does not mean the game cannot be fun but the
excuse given "well it never claimed to be a real ww2 simulation to begin with" is really
ridiculous and insulting to anybody who knows real history.

Actually there is no need to know history like historian to be agree with you. Only stupid school boys or some persons who do not know the names of european countries could disagree. If The game is about fantasy and there is no possibility to have historical or hypothetical course or at least to be a little bit like historical or hypothetical. Then the game is about nothing.

P.S.: I agree with every plasticpanzers'es word. His post is too long to quote and to agree with every point.

I said "stupid schoolboys" i do not mean every schoolboy to be stupid but there are some. And i think most of people younger then 20 do not know history in any significant way. But they could learn some from here and there. If they see HOI3 process they could think that it is alright but it is not alright absolutely. As far as i remember average age of hoi3 player is 24 and i think this people have at least little interest in military history. Then people who likes hoi3 to be like LoTR should be overboard. This game is about history in one way or another. So i am looking forward for 1.4 or perhaps 3rd add-on 1.4 in 3 years. Yes i can play enjoying brain competitions in multiplayer now but i hate this game to be fantasy.

At least these guys are working there butts off to get the game running the way it should be working. Plus they have other games to worry about as well.

You make it look like the game is free. Hello ? You paid for it. If you buy anything else which doesn't work properly, like a freezer that doesn't freeze anything, will you go about thanking the makers because at least they worked hard, and after all they also had to design the washing machine line... ??

Only stupid school boys or some persons who do not know the names of european countries could disagree.

Some ... persons ? :eek:o
Careful, that describes a lot of persons, believe me.

No need for disappointment..........

My 2 cents is that as a reader of the beta threads (didn't have time to participate) there were definitely some outstanding issues, including some sort of apparent performance drop for some in the last two betas. I sympathize with the release/wait dilemma, since they damned if they do and damned if they don't, but I thought it appeared to need one more iteration just from the comments.

Firstly, thanks to everyone at PI. Five years ago I used to get so frustrated with PI when I bought a game. Now with mostly console games around and a few games companies going bust, and taking into account the scale of the PI games, I am glad they are around providing alternatives to the mainstream.

My only disappointment from the frenetic activity of trialing the RC's for 1.3 was the lack of any dev feedback on the results of the "problems" that were raised before the release of the final. I knew they were having a weekend away from the game (at least they should have 'cause they probably needed it - and away from forum discussions:D) but I was looking forward to feedback when everyone returned from the weekend but there was simply the release of 1.3 when I got home from work on Monday. Was it the time difference?

I may have missed the post somewhere but is there info from Johan et al setting out the issues they agree still need to be fixed?

The other thing I didn't understand is why a small typo (a missing = sign) in the Jap unit script wasn't fixed. Surely that would have been a two second job.

To be honest, I only started playing Paradox with HoI2, which I picked up for $10. After installing and updating and everything, it was, and still is, an incredible game.

From the outside, HoI3 does reek of a 'release quickly so you can get the cash' job. But having been on the forums for awhile now, having followed the dev diaries, I know it wasn't. P'dox are an indie developer, as compared to having that publishing backing of an EA or a Ubisoft. The disadvantage to this is less money, really. But the advantage is we get Johan and the other devs on the forums actually reading the bug reports other than a convoluted EA-style system where until a bug hits a ridiculous number of reports the thing aint fixed, and even then it may not be.

We are lucky in the gaming community to have people like Johan (and Gabe Newell, who I believe is of a similar mould) actually developing and producing games for us. So many industries lack such personalities, and will only fix things with their products when it starts to lose them money.

As for HoI3? Well, to be honest I don't think I should have purchased it on release. But I did and still do have every faith in Johan and Paradox to fix their mistakes and I reckon HoI3 will be every bit as good in its own way as HoI2 eventually. We just need to be patient :D

Was depressing to see the game for sale on Steam for $15

I paid $50 for it, and have only played three games of it (one for each patch that comes out, after which I curse the crappy state of the game and shelve it)

Was it the time difference?.

I was lucky enough to have time to test out the last two RCs (6&7??? - I forget), and my impression was the notes for RC7 very explicitly picked up on some of the issues being raised in the thread. One eg, I ran a 1936GC as the USSR, put the STAVKA on AI and in RC6, the whole lot trundled down to Rumania (they were the only people who'd fully garissoned the border), in RC7, it garrisoned the whole front quite sensibly. So yes, there was some feedback (even if indirectly), but I'd give them credit - they either wrote a whole load of responses or looked at the outcomes and tried to work back into the code.

Now a recent AAR has indicated that this even garrisoning only works with equivalent threat levels and the Soviet AI still over-prioritises Finland. But if they managed one decent fix, its a case of iteratively moving to an optimum solution - one reason why I thought it was quite sensible to churn out the RCs - get feedback, fix what was clear, see if that set off any other problems etc.

not too happy either

after 3 months of waiting for a complete game.... it may not be broken, but it certainly doesnt function either.

1. AI is not good enough;
2. Game still crashes.

I believe the fundamental mechanics work, i like the interface, research, construction even think diplomacy is ok (though it may be to easy to pull someone to your side).

BUT, it takes too long. i have been patient, but its just no challenge even on hard.

This should have been the release version (at most)... in time for xmas, and the game could be fully working by January.

I dont cara about the money, but i feel slightly fleeced.

I think there are still big issues with 1.3, the AI is often lethargic and your subs seems to be utterly useless. I just send out a fleet of nine modern subs and before i even noticed they were intercepted by a similar size British fleet and within a second i lost six subs without doing barely any damage. what a bloody waste!

the poles are far to powerful, it took the germans, slovakians and hungarians two full months to defeat them.

The enemy strategic bombing still sucks. you only sees flashes of bombers going over and your interceptors are always too late to intercept them.

I feel frustrated, because it is far to much work to do it all yourselves, but to let the AI handle things is asking for trouble.
