Let me rephrase that. I love to hate it. My new Emperor decided to conquer a troublesome duke and strip him of his titles (I personally like to replace as many of my Dukes with Doges as possible). I hadn't really paid any attention to the various factions for a few years, and I was ignoring the faction alert since it was always up there.

Of course, bam, I get a faction demand to abdicate in favor of my uncle (who, by the way, is a very nice guy, I felt bad that they wanted to rope him into all this). Of course, I refuse, and most of my dukes are now in rebellion (about 1/3 of my Empire). I'm ignoring pretty much all of them, going after the faction leader only, just as I would in previous versions.

Three things happen in quick succession after I start sieging said leader's territory. First, my doges decide they want to be independent. Second, my half brother, king of Croatia and Hungary, decides he wants to be Byzantine Emperor, too. Third, I realize that totally occupying the faction leader's territory does not, in fact, give me enough war score to win the revolt. Oops. There goes all the men I threw away in assaults, for a measly 20% warscore.

Anyway, I think its great; I hadn't had a challenge in awhile, so, its good to have to better maintain the internal politics of your realm like this.

Factions system has destabilised everything much more than before. I personally don't find it too bad other than it being annoying and often illogical & unrealistic.

Similliar thing happened to me.I was duke of both Athens and recently conquered Achaia. When suddenly the Duke of Crete makes a plot for a new ruler of duchy of Achaia... thats strange since I never knew who the duke of crete is but anyways,he somehow got my son who was a count in Achaia in the plot and then he sends me a warning,of course I refuse and war beguns, weird thing is that I was gonna make my son duke of Achaia but he decided to enter a plot which made an other count (outside dynasty) the duke... da fuck? Things like this kinda need fixing.

I got hit by the faction system badly in my very first 1.07 French game. I decided to help dear old Mathilda of Tuscany (and her band of merry men and women) in her quest for independence to take down the Holy Roman Emperor a peg or three, and what happens is that the emperor decides to ignore Mathilda and the others and come right after ME into France. I had about 6K troops all said in my kingdom and I got hit by the full blast of the HRE power, and lost a major battle. Immediately, dear Robert the Old of Burgundy decides the he wants to be the king of France and promptly, with William the Conqueror (William and he had plotted to put Robert on the throne, but William was busy in England and nothing had come of it) declares war on me. Now, I am in a three way war with major enemies (England, Burgundy, and HRE), with England still having 11K troops or so from the time of the English conquest. Now I am in a dicey mess, and am likely to lose the kingship if I don't kill Robert soon. Joy!

I feel like the AI needs to be made a bit less silly with its factiony decisions (Byzantine counts right next to hostile Muslims shouldn't be bucking for independence, dukes shouldn't replace the Emperor with his nephew only to then start conspiring against the nephew to put the original Emperor back on the throne), but I feel like the core idea of the system is a vast improvement on the game. Backstabbing and politicking is fun!

Though there need to be more options for backstabbing. Not nearly enough buttons for backstabbing at the moment.
