I recall when I used to play EU3:DW Korea. I first disbanded all troops(making it 0) without any alliances in order to create a COT as quickly as possible, and Manchu and Japan never bothered to attack. Ever.

I think the game has become more fun with unpredictable, aggressive AI that seeks to attack when the player looks vulnerable. I hope Paradox doesn't tone this aggressiveness down in future patches.

The AI is aggressive even now. I disbanded all my troops in 1.4, as Burgundy. Castille insta-attacked me. I've seen this behavior before, even in 1.3.
I feel the AI need to be a bit smarter about this though, since a country without an army is not necessarily toothless. Think USA before WW2 - almost no army - mega army in just 4 years.

In the case I mentioned if I'm:
a) Burgundy - mercenary bonuses
b) I'm bigger than you by 50% - so good income, plenty of cash or loans available
c) I have Administrative/Innovative ideas - more mercenary bonuses
you should really, really think about attacking me even if I have no armies. The reason is that 6-8 loans later my army was bigger than theirs and I was sieging Madrid in less than 2 years.

FYI it's no more aggressive in the open beta of 1.5.1 (1.5.0.4) than it was in release 1.5.0 - it was 1.5.0 that upped the AI's aggressiveness. Maybe you are less threatening so far in your open beta games and so didn't notice until now :)

Oh god, the AI, I don't know how but it managed to pull off a super-powered Ming. What happened was I set Lucky Nations to Random and Ming ended being a Lucky Nation. In my current game Ming has absorbed all its neighboring Steppe Hordes, Korea, Shan. And Dai Viet. They're also at equal tech level as the Russians and regularly beat them up in wars for bordering provinces... Basically the Lucky Nations bonus negated crappy 'Inward Perfection' for Ming allowing it to expand unbridled... scary. I think there's a new final boss in town lol. Now I just need to make my Ethiopian colonies westernize for me so I can westernize too!

In conclusion, the AI does seem to expand much more aggressively if given the chance. I actually saw Timurids beat up Persia returning to their original 1444 borders after reforming their government (don't ask me how that happened).
