I don't think it was deliberate to keep HoI players away from the Youtube event. I do think that the limited number of people they could fit in to the event they had a higher priority for people who play other games like EU IV & CK2. We are already HoI players and are going to give HOI IV a close look, players of other Strategy games might not. There are Youtubers who play HoI games and they could easily give them Steam access (no need to fly them to some special event) to do a review and they are not. To me this means they do feel ready for this yet for what ever reason (maybe just timing for release).
Remember that they haven't given ANYONE carte blanche to just record the game and say their thoughts over it. They let some people come and play a few games and practice some at home but they weren't allowed to just record all their play and talk over it. It's just marketing man. The game is going to be a year late by the time it eventually comes out and it's incredibly important for PDS to keep people hyped and interested throughout that time.
Generating negative content on youtube would be extremely damaging for the game and 'real' fans tend to be the harshest critics with an inability to look past the end of their nose. Both Quil and Northerlion said that the game was definitely functional, definitely playable and was a blast to play. Hardcore fans are rather more likely to get caught up in 'Tiger tanks have 5 less hard attack! 1 out of 10' stuff, and tend to not think in terms of if a game is fun, if it's accessible and remembering that the present state of the game isn't supposed to be perfectly balanced.
So they control the message, they control the game and the footage. They didn't let ANYONE do that kind of lets play footage.
