I keep running out of influencing despite playing Xenophobic Authoritarian humans

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. A lot of green dots. I constantly have this problem by mid game having no influence with a 0-0 0-1 net in red. I don't have agreements except one embassy on one human faction (not sure but it's the same species so I'd figure I'd be good). What am I constantly doing each game to not have not just no more influence but not generating more (besides anomalies that reward it). I can't expand or do anything. Fairly new player. I even made a rival. Very frustrating. I'm going to declare war, but I can never get out of this influence rut/depression.

rivalries grant influence. democracy also gets a lot of influence from each faction. there are traditions that grant influence. eventually once those traditions are done there's a unity edict that grants influence. becoming custodian and eventually emperor if you stay dictatorial path will grant more influence.

Well, I don't know anything about your build, but I can tell you that you have zero influence because for some reason your base influence gain is -2.00. When I start a completely new unmodded game my empire has a base influence of +3, before counting Authoritarian bonus. Usually the total influence just goes up from there as factions activate and you fill out Traditions.

I haven't completed any traditions except 1 so far (discovery). And go the special research ascendency. I don't know where the base -2.00 comes in. I just know how to please factions you have. Not sure what authoritarian bonus you're talking about.

How do I lower the base. It doesn't start this way but by mid game I can't climb out? I'm engaging in a way and it still not enough to start gaining me influence with the factions.

How many diplomatic agreements do you have? Things like non aggression pacts, guarantee independence, etc. Those generally cost influence to maintain. Also, what is your diplomatic policy? Some policies (isolationist for example) make diplomatic actions cost more.

This guy does not have a faction or policy issue, he is at net -5 base influence from a regular empire. He's got 0.5 from a rivalry and 1.15 from factions, which is entirely reasonable non-negative number, so being negative is very strange. He should be at +4.65.

The only thing I can think of that costs -5 a month is Subject Integration and I feel like that should be in the tool tip. Otherwise... losing multiple humiliation wars? There's something strange here and only OP can tell us if this is an unmodded game.

Can't be integration cuz it would be listed as -5 integration.

The only thing I can think of that reduce base influence gain is from faction management (suppress or promote).

*EDiT*

I just realized you misunderstood OP screenshot, that's why you think op have 4.65 income thus must have -5 negative income some where.

Here is what you are missing OP doesn't have 2 base income but -2 and only way for base influence to be negative is what I said, faction suppression or promotion.

Meaning -2 from base, +1.14 from faction and +0.5 from rival, sum to -0.36 which is pretty close to -0.35 net influence OP has.

In conclusion check your faction, do you have any faction that you set them to suppress or promote and forgot about them?

As far as I remember the humilation modifier gives -3 influence per month. Did you lose a war against a fallen empire or did they forced an agreement with you?

Edit: Dire already mentioned this

You've misread my post, we are already in agreement
