So I just started playing, and I just have to say that the Ottoman Empire is so cool. It's the perfect amount of challenge; not too militaristic like Germany, or too overpowered as the "Big Blue Blob", but just perfectly matches history with mechanics in playstyle.

Now I haven't really read up on this forum or anything yet, and I guess I could get a general feel for the fanbase, but seriously THE OTTOMANS ARE AWESOME!
Who agrees?

There NI are very good ,sure they are no Prussia. But they have always been a community favorite. There ides are extremly powerful and suited for conquest and many players completed there first world conquest with the Ottomans. If Byzantium allies Hungary, it might look scary on the paper but the army count of the Byz/Hun Alliance is more or less no match for the ottomans your Anatolien units are extremly powerfull, focus your tech on mil and wait for tech4 if you find this Byz/hun Alliance is still to Powerful. If that dont work you can restart the game. Start with Fabricating a claim on Constantinople and attack before he gets allies. In most cases Byz only picks up maybe serbia as an Ally.

Get allies, declare on Byzantium. Have 1-2 big armies. As soon as the war starts you want to kill all Byzantine forces and, if you can afford, occupy all their provinces with 1K units (so they won't be able to recruit troops or mercs). Then wait for Hungary to attack you and concentrate on beating their armies one at a time. Ottomans have the strongest early game units, more manpower and more money so you can just kill their forces, occupy a province or two and separate peace Hungary before taking Constantinople.

I despise the Ottoman's.
Most of my games are aimed at killing them, usually unsuccessfully.
The sight of those marauding armies is enough to make you weep !

Ah yes, the nation of Germany. Very much stronger than Ottomans in 1444 indeed. And the overpowered nation of France with their +33% fort siege capability and HRE to their borders.

I agree.

In my test 1.30 campaign as Russia they ate all the way into Egypt and Germany while I was conquering Ming, and the image still haunts my dreams :)

So I couldn’t resist starting my last 3 campaigns — as Muscovy, Aragon, and Austria — with a no-CB on Byzantium followed by an early devastating blow against the green blob.

The trick is also to damage the Mamluks so they don’t replace the Ottomans as the superpower.

In a new game, I decided to leave the Ottomans alone, and they immediately blobbed into Hungary.

The Ottomans are incredibly easy as a nation for various reasons. They have a very strong government form that gives them bonuses to heirs, they have a tech group that makes their armies stronger than others. The Janissaries give them big bonuses too (If I remember right, they can often beat armies twice their size.) and they are probably the nation most able to expand into multiple directions, meaning they don't need to worry about AE all that much. They do fall behind a bit later on, but any competent player will have such a huge amount of land and such huge armies by that point that they can just crush anyone.
