I am playing as HRE emperor and just participated in a Crusade.i had no intention of winning just loading up my vassals for the crusader bonus.it is late game and it was against timurids.

I got all my levies there + retinue 175k soldiers.I fought a battle against the timurids doomstack 138k/369k,which had 50k LC and 50k HA.

It wiped my army out to last man.... German Little Bighorn.i have no problem with losing battle, just that no one died or was captured.

Also Crusade was won and I became King of Jerusalem!

Is this a bug or WAD?

Fighting crusades Zapp Brannigan-style ( I sent wave after wave of my own men...) seems to be the best way to win on contribution score, which is what determines who earns the king title at the end.

I think it's weird, one moment you're leading your troops in Jerusalem and the next moment you lost a battle, 0 survived but you didn't die or get captured.. you aren't even there anymore. No, you're safe and well in your castle. It makes no sense.

I'd would not have minded losing my 19 yo Emperor, it would have made for a fun succession crisis. The fact that no one died or was captured has to be a bug.unfotunately I can't replicate it.i saved after crusade was over. Which happened a few days later and warscore was only 50%.(I think this has to do with timurids being bankrupt,-500 gold).

Most of the balance mods have strongly increased the likelihood of capture and death in battle.

It's one of the many small things, that *USED* to be well balanced in 1.02-1.04 but with each DLC they got more out of whack.

in general, the game engine doesn't support characters as having a geographical footprint unlike games like Mount and Blade or Total War. Or rather, the "location" of a character is simply a value determined by things like missions or leading troops (or worse, defending -- a character can teleport from paris to jerusalem if he owned the county of jerusalem and enemies besieged it).

So basically, if the retinue they were leading was wiped out, their previous "location value" of being somewhere crusading is reset to "residing in court" if they were your courtier. A tedious and convoluted workaround is that if their army was completely wiped out is that all characters at that location have a chance of getting captured or evading capture. If they evaded capture, an event forces them to spend time in the county where their forces were defeated until a relief force arrives there, after which they are considered "rescued" by ANOTHER event. If not, then after some time yet ANOTHER event forces them to move in another adjacent county, then another, repeatedly until they are closer to friendly territory (whether or not event-writing parameters can support that however is a different matter).

I noticed in 1.06b that generals and King's leading Armies were often captured, killed, wounded etc.I think the retinue mechanic with auto-generated generals and auto reinforcement is to blame.

I see those we cornered so ans so and he died fighting bravely events every so often when i watch a battle my character is in.

The retinue of my 175k stack was 25K or 50 generals/courtiers.We use to complain about the "useless" women clogging up courts.NOW it is all the useless retinue generals.

I currently have 76 members of my court.I am sure over 60 are Generals.Whenever i use arrange marriage on them I find 2 maybe three choices of female coutiers in my court.

Easiest fix is if General is attached to stack that is wiped out (RNG)25% killed,50%captured,and 25% teleported home(escape).
