Correct. A king cannot have a liege. A compromise could've been something like alliances between empires, but that's not in the game.

The great thing about "elective" is that with a little "adjustment" of provinces, you can bisicly choose who's going to be your vassal, and then you can switch to an uncle or cousin, providing they are still part of your dynasty.

Is there some rule for determining how distant someone can be related to you and still be part of your dynasty?

Also, if the position of king is elective, and your heir looses that election, do you continue to play as the heir, with whatever titles he may hold as vassal to the new king?

And I'd be interested to know if you had any opportunity to forbid/invalidate their marriage, if such an option even exists, that is. The idea of Christian/Muslim intermarriage in the Middle Ages is a bit ... galling. Reminds me of Steven Lawhead's 'Byzantium', which I won't go into for the sake of keeping things on-topic.

I don't think it was completely unheard of. Especially christian women marrying muslim men, as I think the reverse is forbidden to muslims.

But getting rid of the "Moor" (or his marriage) by some means so you could get the lass sounds like a plan.

Interreligial marriage is definately in. As the King of Egypt I had quite a number of Moslem courtiers, and none of them had trouble marrying people of a different faith. I even got offers from many a sheikdom to marry my daughters away to them.

Still, I think the practice was not unknown, I'd even say not too uncommon. I doubt there were that many Muslims married to german noble ladies in the danish court, but in the "march" kingdoms along the Mediterranean it would not be completely unexpected to learn that a christian lady had, for some reason or other, married a muslim. According to historians, the attitude of the people in kingdoms bordering muslim lands tended to be a lot less hostile towards muslims than in lands farther from the border.
