ok, so we have ruthenian.. but when mongols come, those surviving get their primary culture changed??? How screwupped wouldnt that be?
Just imagine something similar if mongols take parts of other countries too.. like some of hungary etc.. do those get a different stateculture too?
..and what about the provinces live atm, do those change now, or slower.. or are they transformed into eternal aliens?
trust me, this way is much better for continued stability

I can think of numerous better possibilities.
What about Rus'ian? Slavonic? Eastern Slav? Kievan?
The problem with Russian is (of course) is that it buys into the Muscovite line that that Empire founded in Moscow is the true heir to the Kievan Rus, and that cultures such as Ukrainian are merely variants of the master Russian race. Which I fund insulting.
Hence the need for a more neutral term.
