I didn't realize that during a peace negotiation that the alliance splits the ducats. The ones that take part in the war anyway. All you experienced players with the mega posts probable know this already. Adds a new dimension to "hanging tough" when you go to war for an ally.

Live and learn :D

Another point that took me a while to learn was that when the AI asks you for 0 ducats in peace it is actually asking for whatever fraction of a ducat you have in your treasury (0.02 or whatever) so accepting two such offers at once will make you take a loan.. :p

its useful for maintaining firendly allies too. say if you have six stars going into a peace agreement; you take 2 provinces (2 stars each) plus "250 GP" in the peace. whatever money you get will be split somehow among you and your allies, which means they won't be as quite upset with your BB spiking up because of your conquests.

note that AI never offers cash. so for this reason, you will be turning down some of his proposed peace offers --say for 2 provinces only --and using one of your diplomats to ask for cash as well.

Uh, he doesn’t?
*thinking*
Uh, he demands cash now and then, but offers…maybe not.

Why did they not implement this in the AI?

That's not quite true. I once had persia offer me 113 ducats in peace. That's the only time that's happened though.

Can't quite remember... I may have, but I think it would be more likely that I had defeated all their armies and halfway conquered most of their allies, including one vassal (Mameluks). Maybe it was a combination of both. As I said, I can't remember, as it was a while ago.

Yes, AI never accepts to give 3 prov when you ask them, but if they are desperate enough they will offer 3 (of course always offering the worse ones you control).
So if I'm strong enough to have choice, but not enough to go for annexion, a good strategy is to conquer/control ONLY the 3 "value" provinces I'm aiming to and the enemy capital (without further conquest), and then patiently wait until AI offers exactly those 3 provs for peace.

My strategy is to capture two provinces that I want and the capital, and ask for those two and 250d. Never fails!:D

*Almost* never fails. Sometimes if you are a minor and you are up against a superpower (France or Spain) they tend to knock a few stars off a total before they'll even consider it. ;)
