I hope we do get some dlc bloat.

Going to be the odd man out but I would not mind dlc bloat. The several customization options shows a lot of similarities to stellaris which I’ve played a lot of and I love tons of customization So more the merrier especially since we apparently are getting 4 short stack races. One of my biggest gripes in planetfall is the lack of dlc and There for options. For almost every faction there was one direct synergy tech and a couple lesser connected ones and then tech where you would just be shooting yourself in the head of you took them. in AOw4 it looks better with the swapping racial and cultural traits so your not gimping yourself but I still want more Than what weve gotten from past games.

Agree with this. Think there are lots of options for DLC here so far. Would not mind smaller DLC but a few bigger ones as in the previous editions would be great too.

Funny to read something like this, as we heard about lots of options and content at release. But I would currently order all possible bits of content for AoW4 myself. Preorder? Season Pass? Story pack? Bonus DLC something? We are ready for it

I have no AoW experience beyond Planetfall and i have to agree that the customizability that AoW4 promises is my #1 reason to get it.
I found the customizability in Planetfall rather lackluster for the reasons you mentioned. If i have only 1 good choice in every situation then it's not really a "good choice" from a game design perspective.

AoW4 looks amazing in that regard, though.
If they deliver on the empire customization both at start and during gameplay then it will be a game i thoroughly enjoy. I love doing highly specific, weird empires.
Stellaris as an example:
Stuff like Micro-Empire Necro-Hive that abducts pops from all over the galaxy in a continual harvest. It's dumb as crap and highly inefficient, but i love that i can do that. I just need to lower the difficulty setting below what i normally play on, but that's fine. The game is made to allow all kinds of play, but not all of it is equally strong, obviously.

In Planetfall i always felt like there is little space for actually game-changing decisions. You picked your faction and then you could either play efficiently or not. (My experience with it is limited, though. Didn't grab me a lot, really.)

Absolutely agree! More official content means more balanced and perfected content. Mods can do a lot, but official content is always welcome. I would pay for a dozen DLCs at least.

Good DLC fulfills 3 criteria:

- Worthwhile content. The DLC brings something to the game worth having
- Good price. Aka the DLC (singularly or collectively) doesn't feel like a cash grap or too expensive to get a good amount of the game
- Non-detrimental to the base game. It doesn't feel like it's missing form the base game or the base game has factors that make owning the DLC a necessity or highly beneficial.

Triumph in the past has been very good in this regard. Paradox less so.

I'm hopeful Triumphs track record holds, and AoW4 has very apparent expansion points.

Same here!! To me AoW3 and Planetfall (especially Planetfall) was 1~2 DLC away to be PERFECT games.

But talking about AoW4, I hope we got a good number of DLC content, at least 3~4 BIG one or 6~8 medium one.
