What about a Democracy Game?

There were times when I wandered through Civilization III forums, when I used to play that game frequently (and these were dark times, as I yet had to discover EU2 :D). In some Civilization III forums they organized a new kind of game, called a "Democracy Game". It was basically like any normal SP game, but the difference was that the whole forum community would plan, vote and discuss every movement made during the game. There were series of political jobs, including that of president, and a new subforum was created exclusively for the game.

Basically, my idea is that we organize this kind of game here; we could use AGCEEP, any other mods, or even vanilla, and organize guidelines for everyone who wishes to discuss and vote in the game forums. We would start an SP game of EU2, and play it gradually in sessions, each session being played by a chosen "Designated Player". After each session, the save would be made available for download; this way we would all be able to check and debate the progress of the game. Plus screenshots would be posted regularly.

What do you think about the idea?

sounds like a succession game i used to play alot in Rome Total War.. each player simulates a faction leader, when he dies, next players turn and so on.. I'm very interested in this one :)

No, no that's another thing. Quite a bit of such games have been played, with Tuscany (link in my sig), Hungary and Poland.

Its not a bad idea and adds a bit more realism to the game as most nations weren't ruled by one guy singelhandedly. In my Granada game I have a high council that decides what I should do and then I try to carry that out as good as possible. I currently have a bit of a break from eu2 as the weather is nice  . 28 degrees and sun, what more does a man need? :D

Well, weather that aren't as wet as in Sweden (the heat here is either too low or you get headache and flee inside).

:D You swedes don't know how it is to live in or visit a tropical country. 28 degrees is absolutely nothing.

This game would be bigger than just an AAR. We would have a forum for the game, and everyone would vote to choose the designated players, the game version and the decisions to make. Say this would be a Democracy, and all the decisions would be made by the people. Those responsible for playing the game would also change periodically according to the decision of the voters; the game itself wouldn't be linked with any single forum member but with the entire forum.

I like this idea. I initially thought you meant the same as the Granada game but I see now theres differences. I'm keen to partake in this.

Can we have a rule though, if there's a rough ruler the person playing the nation could disobey the people.
We could create a set of rules ("Constitution") for the game to keep order and (most importantly) fun. It would work more or less like if we were running a country in RL, but in fact we would be running it in EU2.

Once more I would like to bring a light over this thread. There has been a few talk about what EU2 is going to be after EUIII is released. With all respect, I'm playing this game for only a year and I surely demand, along with many others in this forum, more community gameplay. Basically we should discuss this more and try to organize this game (A Democratic Game) for all players here in the forums interested, so that actually the whole community would rule over the decisions made. I'm saying that we would have a lot of fun if everyone voted for the creation of empire by all in the forums.

What do you think?
