I have a question about the immortality chain

I'm currently going down the marshal route. I've encountered the event in which the marshal has returned with nothing and the only option is "Oh, that useless [Marshal name]!" Will the event chain continue after this or do I have to reload?

Update: For anyone wondering the same thing, I have since let the game run, and there is indeed more. I do not know if there is only a chance that someone will show up regardless of your advisor's failure.

The first time I was presented with the marshal option, I took it, and was eventually presented with a person that he found (some tribal witch doctor). I'm guessing you probably missed out some dice roll, and may want to reload. I haven't looked at the event scripts, however, so it's possible the chain continues.

One thing to bear in mind with this chain is that some of the events can take years to go through. When I got my character immortality, I think I started at 45, and finally got it at 61. That was not the military line, however - the time I took that I was 30 at the start, and ended up dying at 41 due to events in the chain.
