Hey all. Just a few questions about mods and assets:

  • Is there a way to to install a mod or asset without having to subscribe to it? I don't want a mod to auto-update without my explicit approval.

  • If I enable a mod, play a map and then disable it will I enable achievements again? Or do is it gone for that map?

  • What was the mod that enabled achievements when modding again? :D

  • If I installed a new asset (for e.g. Gula's In-N-Out) that is supposed to replace a L1 Commercial, do I have to force a building to be that one or will one random one end up being the new asset?

1. From the workshop, probably not, there are mods out there that aren't on the workshop, but in those cases the author usually provides instructions on how to install them. Theoretically if you sub to a workshop item and can find those files on your system and move them to the correct folder for manually installing mods, you *might* get it to show up in game, in which case you can unsub and it should still work, as I said, this is just a theory.

2. If by map you mean saved game, then if you enable a mod and play, but don't save the game, achievements will stay unlocked, if however you save that game with mods active you will lose the ability to unlock achievements from that game.

3. Mod Achievement Enabler

4. You can force it if you want it to show up in a specific place, but it can still show up randomly in a zoned area.

the 'i'm a cheating whore who wants everything for nothing' mod

no/yes

It's not that I want to cheat. It's that I want to have the 1st person mod or the traffic query mod active but still get achievements. I don't think those mods are cheats.

Thank you!

Or that you downloaded a bunch of mods which make the game harder, and your achievements are actually worth more.

The rules are the rules. Whilst it's not cheating to download mods in one player (as cheating requires some aspect of social competition), breaking the rules to get achievements (which are a social/competitive side to the game) is totally cheating. It also makes the achievements entirely worthless. I mean, I never really considered them worth much before, but now you don't even have to do the thing in the way anyone else does to get them (regardless of whether you did or not, how is anyone supposed to know).
