I was lucky enough to sit down with the new game last night during my sleep.
Here are the impressions from the initial play test.
The Good:
-- Province system looked great
-- Partisans seem to be real issues for the Germans.
-- I liked the period cut scenes that were included.
The Bad:
--Province borders are not always clear. (The border of Konigsberg and the baltic states looked like it was one province wide, but there seemed to be a sliver of province right below)
-- The learning curve was steep (My friend who was playing the game before I arrived had stacked 13 tank divisions in Konigsberg, something he should have been dissuaded from doing earlier in the game)
--The in game cut scenes, while cool, got repetitive and the hangtime as the computer switched between the game engine and the movie player was really distracting. (It would do the whole "game close then show the desktop at 800 x 600 resolution for a few seconds as the movie loaded" thing.
Overall I'm looking forward to the real version. The one I'm dreaming about has a few bugs still.
(Seriously, though, I actually had a dream last night that I found my friend playing HOI3, poorly, and booted up as France while helping him sort out his Germany game. All the issues above were real things that I noticed in my dream.)
Does anyone else get the feeling that they might be caring too much about this game?
