I don't mean to be rude, but what has your experience with the AI been? Is it really as bad as people make it out to be?
I have had pretty okay experiences with the AI. It is not broken and in my opinion works as I expected.
Is it really as easy to blob and challenge a major (eg. germany) with a minor as Daniel made it look in the Hungary WWW streams?
Also is (non-motorised) infantry movement speed from province to province much faster than in HoI3? (units seem like they move to fast on the map IMO)
If you play good then it is possible. Especially if you don't play on highest difficulty. But you can't just do whatever you want, Luxemburg is really really difficult (even at low difficulties).
I do think that infantry moves faster than HoI 3.
1) After a war and after annexation a country, how much of their industry/factories and their infrastructure is damaged. And how heavy is the damage?
2) And how expensive is it to repair damaged factories or infrastructure? If it is damaged down to 50%, will it cost 50% of the original price, or will repairs be cheaper?
3) And when you send garisson troops to keep the partisans down, does it matter, if you just send one huge division (25 cavelrey + SS company) or is ist better to send 25 mini divisions (with just 1 cavelery battalion). The big one will be better (+20% from the SS), but they have to move around. But will they?
4) If syntetic oil research only raises the amount of factories, wich can be build in one state, it schould be needless, because you can build just one in every state and will have enough of oil. Correct?
1) a lot and quite extensive, it depends on how hars you were on their territory of course as well.
2) If it is damaged 50% you need to repair 50% .
3) They will not move around and therefore smaller numbers will be better against partisans. But they will be less efficient to defend against naval invasions.
4) No, you will never have enough oil and especially rubber will always be a shortage. The further you are in the game the more important these resources get and the less easy they are obtainable to you.
I suppose I meant "does it increase the number of divisions you can send", as well as changing the division limit?
It does not.
Have you found anything which affects the speed at which divisions train up to be deployed onto the map?
Yes, there is a chief of army who reduces division training time.
Ok, thanks, but is it possible to give garrison order on territory occupied by your enemy? How your units act then? I wonder if this would be usefull as sweeping tactic? Could we use it instead manual control or constant rearranging little 'one province' fronts and pockets.
I think they will occupy the territory, but I wouldnt do it. Mainly because my garrison divisions are in no state to fight and will be squashed and cost me equipment that I cant spare to them.
1) Can you post screenshots of 1936 Naval Bomber and it's carrier variant?
2) What equipment paratroopers require? I don't see transport planes in tech tree
3)
So if I build 1 reactor in every state of let's say Soviet Union or USA will I have insane nuke production?
4) What makes marines/mountaineers harder to build? Do they need more equipment or is it only about training time? Do standard infantry have any advantages over them?
5) How are armor and armor penetration calculated (more or less) ? Is it average of all batalions or something else?
If I add a single batalion of super-heavy tank destroyers to a division composed only of infantry will it make it much stronger in terms of armor/ap?
6) How far can you invade without researching any naval invasion techs?
7)Does USSR have paratroopers researched in 1936?
8)Is there any efficiency penalty for having to many aircrafts in single area? Will 1000 CAS sink ships 5 times better then 200 CAS?
1)
here you go
2) Transport planes are not in the tech tree but do exist and you can build them. Picture
here. You do also need them.
3) Yes, but your military production will drop significantly since you didnt build also those military factories and instead spend insane amounts of production to nuclear reactors.
4) Standard infantry has lower training time and higher base hp.
5) Every division has his rating, they deal damage to an enemy so it is based on each division fighting against the enemy.
6) Far, as long as it is all over land. No naval invasion tech = no naval invasions, not even small ones in places where there is no enemy.
7) Yes, Paratroopers I.
8) I haven't found stacking penalties for planes so I assume they fight 5 times better indeed.
You've said repeatedly there is much less micromanagement, which is HUGE. If I understand you correctly, the battleplans allow you to draw up the general line of attack and keeps your second line troops advancing, which allows you to focus on the two or three heavy armored corps and their attendent airpower at the tips of the spears where you're looking for line penetration and encirclement?
Exxxxxcellent.
So. let's talk about dual fronts. Let's say I've got an airwar between German controlled France and the UK. At the same time, I'm trying to launch Barbarossa. Can I trust the AI to conduct a reasonable air campaign, at least regarding air defense against bombing, and focus on the fun of punching a hole up to St. Petersburg, Moscow, and points East? It would make the game a lot more enjoyable if I only had to check on them every week or so rather than every day or every 12 hours.
Same with naval ops; not so much subs, which take care of themselves. But allowing surface fleets to raid without losing them because they do something stupid when your back is turned.
My thanks in advance.
Yes this is all correct.
The AI will keep reinforcing the air units you have in the air but will not switch air zones if the enemy does so. You need to keep an eye on it yourself. On the side of the screen it will show a warning if the enemy has air supremacy in an air zone so you will see it when they switch their planes.
Naval fleets will do the same in the sea zones you assigned them to with the job you gave them. You can also give them engage or no-engage orders.
Also:
I intentionally bought the cadet version of the game because I've always played with counters rather than sprites because there is so much more info on the counters. Are counters still in play or is it all sprites?
NATO counters are there, but even though I was used to them I switched to sprites. They are really nice.
Do sunk convoys take time to replace like even if you have convoys stockpile is the route shut down for a few days?
I do think so, if you make sure no convoy actually reaches the enemy then they will not receive the resources/equipment.
I don't have the press version, but i will answer from my understanding (OP can Confirm/Correct as needed)
For both airwars and with naval missions you setup the missions, the AI won't change the mission or assign a new mission
so for naval missions they have a home port, you assign a raiding mission to a fleet,
you can then assign a mission area of up to 3 sea zones that the fleet will carry out the mission within,
you can setup a ratio of damage that the fleet will break off action and repair until full strength, before resuming the mission (or optionally have individual ships break away for repairs, get repaired and then rejoin the fleet)
You also setup the formation that your fleet travels in, which affects certain things.
Once you've done setup those options the AI will carry them out without your input until you want to change the mission, or they're destroyed or perhaps..(OP input needed here... i'm not sure if losing the port the fleet is based in cancels the mission.)
For air wars, you assign an amount of airplanes (you can assign more than you have if you want to account for future growth) to an airwing then assign the airwing to an airfield, then select the airwing and assign it to an air region(best if nearby), each wing can only be assigned to a single air region
you then assign it a mission (Air Superiority or Air Intercept for defending against air raids, each has a different focus on shooting down fighters/bombers) As long as you're still producing fighters they will automatically join the air wings you have setup(upto the maximum you set) you can still lose air superiority if you don't pay attention because your opponent can drop in several air wings into a single region you've only got 1 wing in, however you can drop more in as well
Overall the automation mechanics on naval and air combat don't seem to be at the same level of the ground war, but they seem light years ahead of HoI3
Counters are in play, NATO counters have to be selected in options, in order to see them in all zoom levels it's 2 separate check boxes, I personally have avoided playing HoI 3 for long enough that i can't tell if there is any difference between the ones in HoI4 and HoI3
@OP, let me know if you're okay with me answering additional questions i know the answer to (or at least am fairly sure of) with you correcting me if needed, I've avoided doing so till now as i don't want to appear to have a copy of the game, but i figure you might enjoy the time saved, and as long as you correct me if needed it might be alright with everyone involved... If this wasn't okay with you I apologize and will go back to simply lurking in the thread(aside from the few technical questions i may think up)
No problem answering the questions whenever you can, I will always look them over so go ahead. Just don't answer it if you think you know the answer but are not sure because that will just cause confusion around.
If I am Venezuela (and neutral) and i choose to export oil to Germany. When the war starts will my convoys to export the oil get attacked by the british? Or are the convoys of the importer always used to ship?
The importer uses their convoys. You don't have to spend any convoy on him importing your resources.
Do the stats and/or cost of support companies scale based on how many regular brigades/battalions the division has?
They do not. They are always the same (unless there is a % improvement of course like trickle back from the field hospital).
What are the effets of the "The Scientist Haven" US focus ?
Some pretend it's a 6th research slot for the USA just because the picture is a beaker. Is this some scientific bonus ?
It is actually, the USA is the only nation I know of that can have 6 research slots (found that out recently myself).
