What does the second and third tier of synthetic factory research do? Does it make it cheaper or increase output?

In Quill's Italy game, Italy starts out with 8 of 20 civilian factories producing consumer goods (40%). But Italy has partial mobilization which indicates 20% consumer goods in the Wiki. Is there something I am missing that increases civilian factory demand?

Is there any significant penalty in switching land doctrines at the start of the game (other than throwing away the first doctrine already researched)?

He also has some military factories that count towards the 'total factories' the 20% is based on.
So If you have 10 civilian factories and 10 military factories you have 20 total; the 20% reduction is then calculated: 20*0.2 = 4
These 4 factories are then taken ONLY from the civilian factory pool.

2) there are the SNLF ( marines ) units ?

3) the Imperial Guard, the A and B divisions have own different equipment ?

4) there are cavarly mongul support units ? the chinese pro-japanese militia ?

5) the pacific sea map of HOI4 shows all islands or the islands and sizes are depicted in simplified way ?

6) lhow many land-based air planes are effective to escort and search on sea zones ?

7) AI of US is improved ? AI can develop advanced sea-land strategies of pacific war now ?

Sure, take your time, I'll add two more questions on top :p

1) How popular are communist and fascist parties in Mexico in 1936? Couping Mexico and early invading USA might be a very good (even OP) strategy
2) Can you make a screenshot of 1936 CAS plane stats? How effective are CAS against navies in general? Does CAS carrier version have higher naval attack?

How long would you say one game lasts?

It really depends on when you want to call an end to the game. Is it when the end date rolls by or when you have accomplished some goals you set out before? (I would go with this one).

And then it is also how fast do you play during the big wars. I think on average you are playing for a day per campaign (that is a full day).

What's the difference between land doctrines? Are they countering each other? In what situations is better to use one doctrine instead of another ones?

It usually depends on what kind of army you are creating, human wave focuses more on lots and lots of infantry while superior firepower gives better support to your support battalions. The doctrines don’t counter each other they complement your forces (or at least you should build your forces so that they do).

Hi, can you test the game without a graphics card or on a laptop that uses iGPU? I'm interested to see if the game runs on low end hardware. If you want an easy way to force it to use your iGPU (assuming you have an intel CPU or something), just plug your monitor into your motherboard instead of your video card.

I have been trying to test this for you but unfortunately I don’t get an image when trying. Sorry!

Could you go into air doctrines? It states in the air doctrines, according to the wiki, that there are bonuses to "ground support" and "air support". What's the difference? How important is air warfare, in general? If the enemy is dominant, and you're nonexistent, how bad is the modifer? Can you target infrastructure specifically, or enemy airbases?

Could you also list please, what each major air doctrine starts with, and if they have any researched already at game start?

You listed the number of civilian factories and military factories at game start for the allies, except for France. To save me single framing a WWW, could you list that here?

The air doctrines are focusing on either CAS, Tactical or Strategic bombers. All doctrines give you bonus to all the air missions and such.

Air warfare can be quite important, you get bonuses (or penalties) for air superiority (or lack of it). Further crippling your enemies’ economy can give you a strong edge as well.

You can target their state infrastructure (which is infrastructure, factories, AA and all).

Nobody starts with any air doctrine.

As for France, 6 military 36 civilian factories.

Can you do supporting attacks that support a main attack but stay put in their own province like in HOI3?

What is the limit from port to naval invasion (Japan in Finland insanity I saw comes to mind)?

Yes you can do supporting attacks.

Naval invasions are limited in the way that you need naval supremacy in all the zones you want to go through. If you get your units in a friendly port close by and then get naval supremacy in the zones that are close (by using nearby allies ports) then you can invade Finland as Japan.

Have you played as either of the Chinas? If so, was it difficult to hold back the Japanese advance and if you were able to push them off of the mainland and out of Korea how did the game in terms of events and AI handle that? If you played up until the civil war did it feel authentically difficult to beat the other side?

Could you please check how many commanders Nat.Spain has?

There is no info in wiki
C:\Users\Wouter\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.png

I have played a bit as China, it was doable. Their lack of good equipment is a pain. The Japanese AI is good in the fact that they try to open up new fronts by naval invasions as well which leads to you as a player needing to decide where to put your forces.

I didn’t play the civil war yet.

So what is the name of Turkey once you go Democratic/Communist?

Fascist is.. Neo-Ottoman Empire as you said
C:\Users\Wouter\AppData\Local\Temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.png

Dankjewel !

Democratic turkey is Republic of Turkey and the communist one is Turkish Socialist Republic.

Thanks so much for this thread. Could you please show a screenshot of the Soviet Air Tech Tree?

Here you go

Unless this was asked before:

Is "independence" an existing casus belli (i.e you are a puppet, and you declare war on your overlord)?

There is not anything like that in the game.

1)What's the point of going all the way to 'Declare war on Japan' focus instead of simply generating a CB and declaring war manually?

2)If I have a lot of fighters and CAS can I expect to be able to invade countries with superior navy across a strait? (for example invade Britain from France as Germany or invade Japan from Korea as USSR)

3)What does nuke generation speed depends on? My guess is the number of reactors - but is there any limit on how many you can build?

4)If country surrenders without being in a faction and I annex it how much of it's manpower and industry do I get?

1) War justification can take a long time and give the enemy more time to prepare. They will be notified if you are justificating.

2) Just having enough air will probably not allow you to invade. It will not be impossible but really difficult at least.

3) It is dependant on number of reactors. You can only have 1 reactor per state, that is the limit.

4) You get all of its industry and you will recruit manpower from the territory at -98%.

Any way to get Wilhelm II on the german throne or will my hopes be dashed :c

Mod it in. Beyond that I don’t think there is a way.

@Wouter Weges

What is Fascist Poland called? And who is their Head of State?

Falangist Poland, head of state is: Bolestaw Piasecki.

What are the rough ratios for volunteers? For example, if I have 40 divisions, how many can be sent to help in Spain? What if I have 80? Other numbers?

I think that it is about 1 per 20 division or so. There is a minimum of 30 divisions you need to have at least.

You can sent however how many division you want to. Just keep in mind the bigger force you supply the more it contribute to world tension.

This is not true, you can send divisions based upon the number of troops you have.

So their contribution in war "victory points" belong to overlord, right?

Yes

Not true: you can only send a certain number depending on how large your army is and how large the army is of the nation you want to support.

It only depends on your army not of the nation you support.

@Wouter Weges First of all thanks for all your effort.

What is the deciding factor which 3D model will represent division on the map? Couple of specific questions comes to my mind:

1. If a division contains tanks, is it always a tank model even if there are less tank regiments than infantry?

2. How about when there are more than one tank type in the division - will it show the heaviest one or the most numerous?

3. PDX will give free DLC called rocket artillery pack, which includes three 3D models of motorized rocket artillery. What division composition is required for it to show as rocket artillery on the map?

4. It a division includes only infantry and a tank variant, for example SP artillery, will it show as a tank or soldier?

You can find it out if the picture of the design is changing. So far what I have noticed is that if you have a full row of tanks that will be the unit type. If it is heavy then it will be heavy. If you have a full line of light and a full line of heavy it will be heavy on the map.

1) Civil war: If you play as Spain for example, is it possible to choose which side you'd like to fight as? How is it decided?

2) If I have a airfield full of planes, and it gets captured, what happens to the planes?

Thanks for this topic, and thanks for taking time out of your play time to help the community.

1) You get the option to choose which side you want.

2) The planes go back to the reserve to my knowledge, they are mostly in the sky anyway.

If you gather production efficiency with one factory until it reaches maximum and then increase the number of factories to 15 do you loose some of that efficiency or not?

If so how much do you loose? Most of it or less?

You lose your efficiency, and it goes down by a lot. Pretty much all of it back down to 10%. You just increased the production from 1 to 15, 14 of those factories are not tooled yet to the production so it makes sense to me.

Sorry if this was asked before but can you liberate Ukraine, Georgia and other nations in the soviet union?

No they are not releasable as the soviets.

I've heard that when Japan change ideology his head of state won't change, is that true?

If for example Japan go Democracy or Communist, head of state will change?Same question for all the others countries!

All countries will change their head of state to the ideology leader. Japan is no exception to this.

I made a thread about this, but it quickly fell under the mountain of new threads and didn't get a response, so I'd appreciate assistance from you on this matter.

----

Imagine a scenario - I have 15 factories, I set them all to produce Infantry Equipment I. They are producing for a long time, so they build up production efficiency.

a) If I switch that production line to motorized infantry (thus losing all the efficiency) and then switch it back in the same hour, without unpausing, is the efficiency restored (for example I wanted to just see how much I would produce of motorized infantry if I just switched to it, but I see that I don't like the numbers, so I want to go back)?

b) Is production efficiency tied to the specific factory? For example, I take 3 of those 15 factories, remove them from the Infantry Equipment build and then set up a new line producing something completely different for a month, then I remove that line and put the 3 factories back to the previous line, will they have lost all their efficiency, or only the decayed efficiency will be gone (so they'll still retain most)?

In the same scenario as b), what if I had much more open factories and I added 3 factories back to that previous line, would the game give preference to the factories that have higher efficiency in that line (if it remains tied to the factory) or would it assign it randomly, thus risking that if I have 6 factories - I could have 3 factories assigned that had no efficiency there while the 3 factories with efficiency are left unused?

Looking at the videos I do recall something about factories retaining production efficiency, but I'm not sure how consistent & specific that is, so I'd just like to clarify.

----

Thanks in advance.

a) Efficiency is not restored, so be careful with it! You know how much production you put out and how much the thing you want to produce costs, you can calculate it yourself.

b) They are not tied to factories but just to the line you have set up in the production screen. So removing them and setting them up in a new line will make you loose efficiency.

How much quicker do you planing bonus increase if you use signal companies?

It depends on the level of it. On level 1, 5% higher initiative.

Could you post pictures of the Swedish Focus tree, and the Finnish? Thanks!

They have the generic ones as all the minors.

My question and only issue I could not solve in HoI 3 was related to supplies.

Supplies were connected to your capital, you needed supply convoys to ship them when you landed somewhere. These were shipped in only one unique port, in the biggest port you had in the conquered territories, which of course had a limit, so land 3 milion French soldiers in Crimea in '45 everyone starves to death.

Can you ship supplies to multiple harbours? Or there is only one port handling everything and then it depends on the infrastructure of the provinces between your port and where your troops are?

I believe that you can use multiple harbours, the game will show you the supply lines that are going around and it will show you the bottlenecks as well.

If Germany is in two wars against the Allies and the USSR and gets puppeted by the Soviets, does the war continue between the Allies and the USSR, as Germany is in the Commintern? If not, do the Allies get to keep German territory they occupied or do they have to give it back? Can the USSR get those territories in the peace treaty?

Also, what are the advantages of being a democracy? It seems there is none compared to the fascists and communists..

They will have a peace conference with everybody together.

The advantage of the democracies is that you can join the allies.

This is a wonderful thread. read every page and I really admire your devotion to us, since we absolutely rained you with questions.

On that matter, I have a simple question.

A) Have you seen argentina join the war? on which side? Or anyone in south america for that matter

South-America is always a quiet place, not even the fascist join anybody.

Thank you for your time and your commitment to help us still chastised forumites over this very loooonnnngggg weekend. :)

Only some 77hours to go!!! This is really good to keep the hype up!

My questions regard resources:

Do I need to trade my civilian factories against resources from countries in my faction or can I get them for free or as lend lease?

Do I get some/all resources from my puppets?

Can you forward a screen shot of the German Air models (the research screen)?

Cheers!

EDIT: First question can be better like this: Do Alliances pool resources? If at war?

You need to trade factories even if they are in your faction. You do not pool resources.

Your puppets keep their own resources.

Here is the German Air models

I would like to play countries like Ireland and Croatia. Both starts with limited resources.

Iirc 10 Steel in Croatia for example. Does that mean they have only that or are there

"National Resources", some offmap resources that this state have?

That is all the resources they have, there is no offmap generation of resources.

which doctrine is more useful for minors such as like turkey/romania/hungary?

and does superior firepower doctrine really grants you additional unit slot to your division?

No additional slots for superior firepower. What doctrine you go for depends on the military force you want to have. Based upon the army you want to build you should choose the doctrine, not the other way around.

It increases the amount of them you can have in 1 state.

If he has partial mobilization he should have only 20% working consumer goods.

There is no penalty besides losing a researched tech.

Is it possible and/or usefull to make garrison area on enemy territory? I think i saw something like that in some stream yesterday, but i can't find it now.

Watching streams and gameplays, we often see massive infantry buildup, roll over enemy early years, but having massive lack of infantry equipment. It seems to me, using this aproach, most countries will suffer from lack of manpower after several years. Am I right? We don't have many past 43-44+ footage.

If you occupy territory then you want to garrison it otherwise it will create partisan activity which will damage your factories and such.

Yeah, those tactics really make you run out of manpower fast, I have had the scraping the barrel conscription law on when I did those kind of runs before.

Sorry i am writing from work on my phone there may be a lot of gramar or spelling errors so bear with me.

I am a big fan of Naval Combat. So i want to know more about how it works and what composition is needed.

1. How should you consider ratio of destroyers to Capitol ships?

2. How are they helpful to your main fleet?

3. Is it worth building Crusiers or just spend all your industry on DD CV and BB.

4. Does the game make CV soo much better thab BB that it is not even worth investing?

Watched the first few parts of your Italy LP and loving it wo far! Keep up the good work this thread is taking me through my breaks at work!

1. This depends on your preference, there is no minimum number or such.

2 Every ship has its good points, smaller ships are also cheaper to produce. Destroyers excel at destroying submarines.

3. I usually build quite a lot of light cruisers, I find it quite worth building them. Again it depends your preference.

4. CV’s are really good but require a lot of extra production since you need to produce the planes for it as well (and research them). BB’s are still worth investing into if you can afford it and plan your fleet for it.

Regarding the air game.

If I have an attack running and problems in a particular province, can I assign CAS to that province or can I only assign airplanes to an airzone and have to hope for the best?

You assign planes to the air zone, they will help in that battle automatically. I haven’t had much problems with it.

Is there anyway of knowing the tech levels of the equipment you're fighting against? For example, if my 1940 fighters are being decimated by 1944 fighters (random example, I know), is this information presented in any way other than the high casualty rates you're experiencing? Being locked a visible arms race would be very cool.
If you are losing fighters even though you have more than it would be a good guess that they have better planes. Besides that you don’t really have an indication what they are using. At least I haven’t seen it yet.

Stupid question and probably known. Does raising a bunch of divisions raise war tension? Seems like a country suddenly building all sorts of weapons of war should set off alarms.

I think that it is about 1 per 20 division or so. There is a minimum of 30 divisions you need to have at least.

Do you know anything about the National Focuses that reduce the "Divisions required for sending volunteer force" modifier? I'd assume they affect the number of divisions you can send, not just modify the 'minimum 30 divisions' limit. It isn't clear from the wording, of these focuses, though.

I have some questions about Venezuela. I would love to know what resources they have. I belive they are fascist and I'd like to know their relationship to Germany. I'd really appreciate if you could look that for me up :)

They are fascist and therefor their relationship to Germany is +10/+10 because of same ideology.

They start with 184 oil as resources.

I just saw your let's play with Poland, and you easily beat Germany faster with an offensive strategy. This was exceptionnal, some kind of bug or the game is too easy ? In your game with Brazil, do you think you can beat the USA as fast as you beat Germany ? And with the same difficulty ?

I knew what to prepare to in the Poland game and it was easy because it was high risk high reward. Also I should probably play on a higher difficulty level because of my experience with this game and others like it.

I don’t think I can beat the USA at all in Brazil, they are just way to strong for me. Maybe I will try though.

Does it make a difference (and what difference would it make) if I set up 5x 100 fighter/bomber wings for an airmission in the same area from the same airbase instead 1x 500 fighter/bomber? (other than habing/getting max 5 aces to 1 ace) ?

Would like to roleplay with 100 plane-airwings but I am afraid it would be much less effectiv to do so if 100 fighters of me would rush in 500 enemy fighters instead of 500:500...

No, they just pool all the planes assigned in the air zone. So having just many 100 stacks is fine.

Does Carl Gustav Fleischer have his own portrait?

He looks kind of generic to me.

Does the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Iraq have over 21% support for Fascist or Communist governments in the 36 start. I ask because the UK as focuses to attack them if they do. Also have you seen these ever go up or down without you interfering with them? Like do any change by the 39 start? And can you influence Fascist support as a democracy.

Iraq has 20% support and Belgium 11. So nobody has 21% or more. I don’t really see them go up and down unless they are affected by focuses from other countries.

You can only support your own ideology. So no fascist support as a democracy.
On average, how competent are AI allies? For example, looking at Quill18's current playthrough, the German AI is a complete mess, which can't even mop up Denmark. Go to 19:20" to see what I mean
I find the AI quite competent, I let them handle my general battle plans where I just use my steering power to make them win. As for being completely on their own. I still think they are competent, usually they do what they need to do. But if the odds are stacked against them they usually will lose.

What are the effects of the "Albanian Occupation" focus ?

As there is no oil resource in Albania (according to the HOI4 wiki), I wonder if it add some oil there ?

It will give an ultimatum to Albania in which it usually gets annexed by Italy. There is a chance they will refuse and there will be a war then.

Will the Unbidden invade at any point?

I really hope they put something like that in the console commands. I think in HoI 2 there was something like that where aliens invaded.

I made a thread about this, but then I remembered your thread and I hope you can help me :)

In the video below, we can see sped up WW2. Germany and Lithuania push back the dirty communists. You can see in minute 3:18, that glorious Lithuania controls its home turf and also vast areas of Russia.

At 3:54 we can see that glorious SU recovered and destroyed the fascist invader pigs. The Germans are completely wiped out by Poland and Lithuanias homeland has been "liberated" by the communists.

Now, in the North (around Archangelsk I think), the Lithuanians still control some land.

Now the question 1:

How much manpower does Lithuania have available now (Dec 1944). They lost their homeland, so those people are not recruitable anymore. That means they will draft the people from occupied Russia, yes? But they only get like 1-3% of the draftable population there?

Something similar happened in the same video to Germany. Berlin now belongs to the Polish hussars, but the honorable Italians gifted the Germans some land in France. Is it now the case that french factories with french workers produce German tanks, and french population gets drafted to serve in the German army to fight their french/allied brothers?

So that means that Germany gets the IC malus (50%) and also the draft-population malus (95%?) of occupied territory?

Are they even able to produce units, or do they only fight on with the meager rest of the forces they have left? Because Germany sure seems to extend its territory (for like, 2 weeks, but still!)

And question 2:

Does the AI really give its allies a part of the occupied territory so they can "play on"? Or did the countries conquer those lands themselves with their remaining armies and I just misinterpreted?

And how does the AI decide when and which states to give its allies?

1) They have a lot less manpower available. -98% from non-core territory. I don’t think they get an IC malus but they do get the population malus. They do keep producing as long as they have control of a factory.

2) They don’t really give territory so they can just play on. At least I haven’t seen that happen. There is some logic to it why they give territory and it has to do usually with where it is located.

Does radar stations help in sea provinces arround?

You can get more vision on what kind of ships are sailing around.

How many countries can you release as USSR? Also thanks for all the answers, its really helpful.

In the ’36 start no country can be released.

One more for you. Can you show a picture of Japan aviation tech. I remember reading about the Devs recently updating that, I wish to compare it. Thank you so much!

Here you go: http://prntscr.com/bc3mkc
Do you need a ton of divisions with MPs as support to keep the resistance from raping your factories and infrastructure? Benjamin Magnus has like 30 cavalry divisions (with MPs) in France to suppress them.
Depending on the size of the area, your occupation laws of the area and your MP technology you need more or less. 30 cav for France seems about right.

What makes you so goddamn special that you got a preview copy?

Who's cousin are you?

Paradox decides who get a press copy. That is all I can say about it.

Did you lost any game to ai?

Not yet.

I probably going to be starting with a minor nation such as my country (Portugal) and was wondering, during your +70h, if Portugal did anything at all besides border defense/neutrality. Such as use their colonies in the pacific or africa....or take advantage of the civil war in Spain.

I have seen Portugal join the Axis once.

Question.

How nations that start with 2 research technologys gets the fifth one? I know you get 2 from national focus tree but can´t find where i can get the 5º slot.

If you start with 2 slots there are 3 gains one is called technology sharing. If you start with 2 you can get a slot from there. If you start with 3 it gives some research bonuses.

some questions:

1) Japan can develop own nuke research ?

2) there are the SNLF ( marines ) units ?

3) the Imperial Guard, the A and B divisions have own different equipment ?

4) there are cavarly mongul support units ? the chinese pro-japanese militia ?

5) the pacific sea map of HOI4 shows all islands or the islands and sizes are depicted in simplified way ?

6) lhow many land-based air planes are effective to escort and search on sea zones ?

7) AI of US is improved ? AI can develop advanced sea-land strategies of pacific war now ?

1) Yes they can.

2) There are marines in the game.

3) Not sure who you mean but there is no special equipment for units.

4) There is no support unit like that. You can make a division named like them.

5) I am pretty sure it is simplified.

6) It really depends on the situation in the sea zone itself, enemy planes and enemy navies and such.

7) Yeah, the USA more than once won the war against Japan.

In the generic national focus tree, what does the Internationalism Focus and the Political Correctness do in the political focus branch (communist logos)

PS sorry for bold writing CBA to fix it.

Internationalism gives you a -75% foreign subversive actions bonus and Political Correctness gives you +10% Division recovery rate bonus.

When player cheats, does AI gets the same effects like in the HoI3?

(AI getting insta research ability too when the player entered instantresearch code command through console for example)

I am pretty sure they don’t.

1) There is almost no support for them in ’36 start.

2) Here is a screen of both of the planes their stats

Does Australia get any unique stuff or is it all generic?

They get their own heads of state no special units or such.

So is there anyway to get out of the grasp of your overlord besides tweaking files, or will it be like HoI3?

I dont think you can get away from your overlord. I havent tried converting them to a different ideology. I will try that later.

Stupid question and probably known. Does raising a bunch of divisions raise war tension? Seems like a country suddenly building all sorts of weapons of war should set off alarms.

It does not, people are unaware how many divisions you actually have.
