I absolutely HATE the cardinal game. Honestly, It doesn't matter who I'm playing, I always convert to either protestant or reformed. Because it's horrible.

Any possibility in the near future - maybe sometime after WoN - could we have a religious DLC? One that makes the Reformation more relevant and the Wars of Religion actually important. And, obviously, one that makes the cardinal mini game something more fun and less I-hate-this-horrible-mini-game-and-I-will-kill-myself-if-I-still-keep-doing-it-after-1550.

I'd hate it less if it could be somewhat automated. Select who to invest into and then continuously invest into it without having to open it every month.
That said, I'd like all the religions to be more interesting.

Even an inefficient automatic cardinal investment mechanic would be nice. That way, if you're too weak to realistically have a chance or so strong that allocation points carefully doesn't matter, you can just leave it on auto and otherwise micro it if you care. It shouldn't be that hard to just let AI coding for it handle it or something.

Don't cry so much.
Someone is complaining about a poorly designed minigame, let's pounce on him!

I rarely don't use it, especially because by the 1600s a player can monopolize it with sheer size. The only time I would switch to protestant is if I'm trying to form Prussia, the bonuses are simply too good.

In fact, I tend to go Catholic as Japan or anyone who is not a muslim/orthodox/prussian just because of how strong the bonuses are.

It's not that bad and there is certainly no need to hate on it. Especially considering that his arguments are really not that great. He's just upset.

Definitely not fun, one of two micro"management" systems, along with upgrading ships, that could really use an update.

1+. I find it retarded that we can't at least sell them or something. They're not troops that we disband: they're ships. They were historically sold and bought from and to nations by private parties. Give us something like 25% of original cost when selling. Anything but as it is right now.

Don't cry so much.

No. I'll cry as much as I want to. Anything else?

It's not that bad and there is certainly no need to hate on it. Especially considering that his arguments are really not that great. He's just upset.

The argument is that the mechanic constantly prompts the player regardless of whether their influence is runaway or insignificant, and that it could be made far less grating without much effort. That is a valid argument.

Edit: And yes, religions being a significant factor in European tension would be an interesting change. Right now it barely matters.

You don't have to open it every month. Invest into a cardinal, set the "someone has taken over our cardinal" message to popup+pause, and then whenever that comes up click "goto" and click on your cardinal twice. If in the corner of your eye you spot your papal influence near the max choose a new cardinal to invest in. Quite simple, really.

You still generally have to open it every month because competing nations will out-bid you as soon as they're able to. It's very tedious.

To those who think that I didn't gave arguments for my hatred:

Let me give some nice arguments on why the Cardinal Mini Game should be changed/automated/removed/anything:
  • You open a little window some times in the year, later monthly, choose a cardinal and click on it. Rinse and repeat, forever and ever, until the game ends.
  • It's boring. You just choose a cardinal with relatively young age and with a realistic chance for you to win his favour. Click. Wait. Click. Wait. Click. There's no strategy. There's no thinking. Anyone with half a brain can figure it out.
  • It's randomness is idiotic. Since I hate it so much, I usually just dump the points in the cardinal from my nation or anyone whom I can get to control more easily. Often I become controller without even trying, because after a while, I start to get cardinal of my own there more frequently.
  • It's too abstract. Right now, you're catholic and you play that awful minigame and become papal controller. BOOM! Instant bonuses. No espionage. No diplomacy with Papal States. Nothing interesting. Just bonuses and an extra option in diplomacy.

You're doing it wrong, then. Generally you should be backing 3 potential cardinals, and all the other nations should be bidding on the other 2.

It is the most boring part of being a Catholic nation, and it simply shouldn't be. The Church was a major player on the politics of the time, and we get a number stacking mini game to simulate this? If you do get control, the options there are limited to two things.

Not very deep gameplay, in a game where "grand" is a prefix to "strategy". Love my EU games, this part needs heavy, heavy work. It's true and you know it at heart.

Yes, it's simple. No one said it was complicated. I said it's BORING. Just by reading you description, I yawned.
