EU4 is for adults who can think, Total War is for kids who like clicking ''I win'' buttons.
To be fair, EU4 also has an "I win" button.

It's big and pistachio-coloured.

i just run a google search for any thread accuse DeI to steal from EB. I didn't find anything. there is literally no sign of your accusation anywhere
- you should improve your google fu than. Compare units from EB1 sitehttp://europabarbarorum.com/EB1/factions.html
and EB2 prewievs that were posted by EB2 team on totalwar.org with what DEI team posted in their prewievs, fanboyo.

except you cannot adapt to that. a 5/6/5/2 general in the 15th century, in this game, is a death sentence. give it to any minor power and they'll unify the area they're in pronto. give it to a major power and they'll expand at a stupid rate.

how can you adapt to something that you cannot in any way control/stop? do i avoid battles and lose the war? do i try and wipe the army, despite the fact that they have a god general?

in these games, you can stack the deck as much as you want, but one piece of RNG can completely screw everything up. that doesn't make for a fun game in my opinion.
I actually like that event, mostly because I have never noticed it being used against me, but it has many times helped me out in tough situation.

Play as the Ottomans, you can expand in pretty much any direction and spread your aggresive expansion modifier around the place.

I also used to play mainly Total War however once I got used to the superior diplomacy and the bigger strategic scope of the gameplay I can't go back.

Same here. Alliances and diplomacy actually matter in this game. The only thing I miss is that feeling of awesome when you pull off an amazing victory through superior tactics. In EU4 if you face a superior army with a superior general on even ground you're in a doomed fight barring an exceptionally generous RNG. You try to control the timing, location and resources invested in a battle but after that it is out of your hands. It is a different type of game.

I want to say that even though I don't see myself playing any other TW games in the foreseeable future the series does do a few things well and both games have RNG. TW games were a actually my gateway into games like EU4.

To the original poster: EU4 has different rules than TW and operates under different assumptions and I would suggest more complexity. Getting trashed and failing is a normal part of the learning procedure but if you stick with it, you will overcome these initial barriers. This isn't a game for dramatic battles and has a different focus. Alliances really do matter and diplomacy can't be ignored. Hopefully you will pick it up at some point and try again and if you do feel free to ask questions here as people are generally friendly and will give you pointers for things.

I don't know what to say.......
Castille was my first nation to play as in eu3, and it took a couple of tries. After you spend the time learning all the stuff, then you realize how much stuff there is to do in a game of this scope, which they keep adding to.
As for the OP, ask questions and you will get more help than you would want. Bitch and complain and you will get...... well just read previous posts.
I'm assuming that your biggest problem is France, just wait for France to get into a huge war or ally people that hate the people you do. ''The enemy of my enemy is my friend.'' If all else fails you can give up and take the easy way out and play Ulm.

i'am a huge TW fan, but Paradox games play in a different league. You got get into the game. everythin is logical, you just cant see it.

btw: welcome to really strategy. You just left casual

Edit: oh ya, and your completly oke taht you can recruit 3 Legions of Pretorianguards in numidia a year after your conquered it in Rome 2 ? A: there is not 15'000 man in Numidia to recruit and how realistic is it two train pretorians a year after conquer?

IF you cant handle EU IV but still want some more challenge than Arcade Rome II, try Rome II Divide et Impera mod on twcenter.net

Claiming everything is logical in this game is almost hyperbolic white knighting as the OP is hating :p. The game has tons of merits but when you reach to that extent you're implicitly claiming some rather ridiculous abstractions/bugs/rules to be logical.

that event happens so infrequently though that it does not compomise gameplay in a significant way imo
besides, random events make the game more realistic and replayable

So in hoi3, should there be an event that happens once out of 100 games that kills off half your command staff?

It's infrequent and doesn't compromise gameplay in a significant way.

To be honest this is first time i am so frustrated and angry at some game that i have to express my frustration on game forum. I have never played game which is so bad. i Recently bought is on Steam discount and started playing right away.

Started with Castille because its friendly starting experience, and i allready played game tutorial. And allthough its easy beating Moors everything after that is unplayable.
I tried few times starting war with Aragon with my allies England and Portugal. Aragon allied with France and pope, and its over for me. After 3 new campaigns and 3 looses i tried something new. Quick Alliance with Navara to vasalize them ,soon they start war with Aragon i have to join, even France join us but 10 other countries join Aragon, including Portugal and we lost again. Its unwinable.

Game is so random and so stupid its unplayable.I played allmost all Total War games and it was really interesting because you can actually win and conquer things. This game is pure randomness. Maybe 1 in 100 games will go in my favor but i dont wanna play game like that. Even worse is man power which is like 0 after every war so you cant recruit new units.

Maybe for someone its interesting to wait 50 years for man power to replenish and start war again only to get owned by AI and do same thing all over again and but not for me especially if game last only till 1821.

All thing consider,im gonna stick to real stategy game like Total war games, where you can, like conquer things or win wars and not feel like game is punishing you for no reason. All in all, worst 20 hours i spent in any game

I consider myself an average player. Conquered the world. 12th game overall. I doubt you'll play this game again but if you do, focus on learning basic mechanics first. You probably made all kinds of major errors, like everyone here did before.

Ease up, gents. I think it's safe to say that we have all rage quit a game or two. Sometimes things just don't go right and we aren't in the mood for it.

Granted we don't all rage quit in such a public manner. :D Yes, it was funny. Like watching someone get hit in the crotch with a ball.

To @Mateja, try again. These games are seriously more in depth than TW games, and perhaps any game you have played previously. We hope you stick around, because these games are excellent.

We will laugh at forum rages, though. Human nature.o_O

"Oh noes, I failed even despite mommy and daddy always telling me I was so special! Must be the game´s fault"

Concepts like learning curves aren´t that grasped by everybody, then again common sense is not that common...
