To be honest this is first time i am so frustrated and angry at some game that i have to express my frustration on game forum. I have never played game which is so bad. i Recently bought is on Steam discount and started playing right away.

Started with Castille because its friendly starting experience, and i allready played game tutorial. And allthough its easy beating Moors everything after that is unplayable.
I tried few times starting war with Aragon with my allies England and Portugal. Aragon allied with France and pope, and its over for me. After 3 new campaigns and 3 looses i tried something new. Quick Alliance with Navara to vasalize them ,soon they start war with Aragon i have to join, even France join us but 10 other countries join Aragon, including Portugal and we lost again. Its unwinable.

Game is so random and so stupid its unplayable.I played allmost all Total War games and it was really interesting because you can actually win and conquer things. This game is pure randomness. Maybe 1 in 100 games will go in my favor but i dont wanna play game like that. Even worse is man power which is like 0 after every war so you cant recruit new units.

Maybe for someone its interesting to wait 50 years for man power to replenish and start war again only to get owned by AI and do same thing all over again and but not for me especially if game last only till 1821.

All thing consider,im gonna stick to real stategy game like Total war games, where you can, like conquer things or win wars and not feel like game is punishing you for no reason. All in all, worst 20 hours i spent in any game

i'am a huge TW fan, but Paradox games play in a different league. You got get into the game. everythin is logical, you just cant see it.

btw: welcome to really strategy. You just left casual

Edit: oh ya, and your completly oke taht you can recruit 3 Legions of Pretorianguards in numidia a year after your conquered it in Rome 2 ? A: there is not 15'000 man in Numidia to recruit and how realistic is it two train pretorians a year after conquer?

IF you cant handle EU IV but still want some more challenge than Arcade Rome II, try Rome II Divide et Impera mod on twcenter.net

Total war games entire concept is about conquering things and fighting wars, its in the name. If you want mindless slaughter and conquering then they work great. If you want any of; Diplomacy, Historical accuracy, economics, Strategy, realism, decent internal mechanics, Peace, depth or just something other than mindless conquering then EU4 is a much better game (though not perfect).

Attempting to play like Total war, declaring war on everyone and assuming your ability to outwit the AI will win you every battle, then you are playing wrong. If you cant sit still for 20 years at peace, you are playing the wrong game. This is a grand strategy game, you have to use diplomacy and some sort of strategy.

Lol! Well i heard its way too easy to win in total war games, so whats the point of playing? Might as well just code yourself game with button "win" and press it. In eu4 you cant just attack anybody and expect to win..

EU4 is for adults who can think, Total War is for kids who like clicking ''I win'' buttons.

Well well as a lover of TW-Games and Paradox games your a bit unfair.. There are plenty of good mods out there wich make it a big challenge (DeI)

In terms of Battle tactics and units Paradox Games dont stand a change aganst TW games. Wich is fine
since its not the focus.

The best game i can imagine woud be TW-RT Battle combined with a Paradox campaign game.

I loved TW:Medieval 1 when i first played it, but got bored fast from the battles.
So i played the map only.
About 12 years later, i heard of/discovered EU4.
Man, what a joy :D

BUT without kill cam. The battles need to play out like in Rome 1 and before, when the series was still fun, or this would be a disaster like Rome 2.

Nah, no mods. I played them since Medieval 1 and to be honest that one remains my favourite. That and Rome 1. Empire was so-so but I didn't like Shogun 2 much (realm divided really pissed me off). I only really tried it when it had a free weekend, after Empire and Shogun 2 I didn't want to sink this much money blindly.
Does the mod get rid of the "feature" that makes the battles a series of 1on1 duels with units shuffling around to try to align for a kill move? Does it add mass to unit models? Because if the battles aren't made like in the past, there's not much left in the game that's worth playing, more than PDX games anyway...

And it better be seriously worth the absurd price of Rome 2.

You expect to master EU4 after 20 hours? Many people who have 300 hours are still "beginners" in the game.

Well I'm sure you'll get an outpouring of support for your position here, on the official forums for the game.
- meh, he could get a support if his critique was viable. But it was not and his comparison to TW, a game were AI since the beginning of times could use only one tactic - zerg rush with hordes of elites because AI in TW gets tonnes of economic bonuses so it can supports as much bigger armies than player even if it only controls one province, is just laughable.

that's why games have become a lot easier over the years. More and more people just don't want to put in the time to learn the mechanics and get better. They want to steamroll right from the start. It's a shame really. That's why I feel that EU4 is so good. You have to play multiple campaigns in order to understand all the features and make the most out of them. If the OP would spend a few dozen hours more in EU4 I'm sure he would think differently and get much more enjoyment out of it.

And it better be seriously worth the absurd price of Rome 2.

it changes tons of stuff in CAI, BAI as well as campaign and Battles. i woud take ages to write it down..

here is a link: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?2024-Divide-et-Impera-(DeI)

i can only recommend it with all of my heart :)

Attila actually has quite some challenge in it, however it is quite obvious that it is a testing ground for the upcoming Warhammer title. Let's hope the latter will pan out something to chew on.
