I HATE EU4 !

To be honest this is first time i am so frustrated and angry at some game that i have to express my frustration on game forum. I have never played game which is so bad. i Recently bought is on Steam discount and started playing right away.

Started with Castille because its friendly starting experience,and i allready played game tutorial. And allthough its easy beating Moors everything after that is unplayable.
I tried few times starting war with Aragon with my allies England and Portugal. Aragon allied with France and pope,and its over for me. After 3 new campaigns and 3 looses i tried something new. Quick Alliance with Navara to vasalize them ,soon they start war with Aragon i have to join,even France join us but 10 other countries join Aragon, including Portugal and we lost again.Its unwinable.

Game is so random and so stupid its unplayable.I played allmost all Total War games and it was really interesting because you can actually win and conquer things. This game is pure randomness. Maybe 1 in 100 games will go in my favor but i dont wanna play game like that. Even worse is man power which is like 0 after every war so you cant recruit new units.

Maybe for someone its interesting to wait 50 years for man power to replenish and start war again only to get owned by AI and do same thing all over again and but not for me especially if game last only till 1821.

All thing consider,im gonna stick to real stategy game like Total war games,where you can, like conquer things or win wars and not feel like game is punishing you for no reason. All in all, worst 20 hours i spent in any game

Castille was maybe a too difficult a start for you, you don't have to expand in europe as them though, especially if you face an Aragonese French alliance, better to hope for the Iberian Wedding then. And its randomness is what makes it great, and adds so much replayability. You could maybe try someone like France Or England instead, and then once you've mastered the mechanics move on to the ones that require more attention paid to the game. Losing wars is a part of the game, it happens, and you learn from it. I wish you good luck with EUIV if you continue to play it (I'm not saying losing is fun, but its a part of the learning experience, don't start over because one lost war, unless you're playing a very luck based campaign, or a World Conquest)

You can't expect to win every war you start, particularly if the enemy alliance is stronger. Turn down the difficulty and/or think through wars before starting them.

Todays society...
Just blame and rant all day long.

Instead asking questions like:
- Why is my manpower always at 0 after a war?
- Why are the alliances in the wars as they are?
- Should i conquer Aragon as Castille, or should i go to Africa, or colonize early?

These are questions i would ask myself.
Like in my first game i got my ass kicked because of Overextension and Agressive Expansion.
After that i learned the next steps of "blobbing", trade, Personal Unions, and so on.

So just my 2 cents:
Don't rant here, but ask for help and tips.

You still need to learn the mechanics, paradox games have a steeper learning curve, after over 1.2k hours in this game i can be still surprised by realizing that UI provides more information than i thought it did. Once you get the crux of this game you will be hooked forever, i promise you.

Well, it is difficult for newbies to understand the game as all manuals are nearly outdated, but if you had the latest over-worked manuals it would be not easy to get into the game, too. It is just a grand strategy game so you need a few time to learn and understand the mechanics. Please believe me: if you start a test-game as a minor nation like Switzerland first, you are not overcharged by the game and you have the time to learn and then you will understand why I'm addicted to EU4.

I think Portugal or Ottoderps are the best starting countries. Portugal pretty much railroads you into colonizing and warring against softer targets, as Castille is so more powerful than you that you won't be tempted to expand into Europe.

And Ottos are Ottos are overpowered

Maybe you should try playing the game more. It takes some time to learn if you haven't played paradox games before. Just be patient.

the one thing i do agree with you on is the sheer stupidity of the RNG in this game.

how fondly i remember being the Ottomans in an MP game, declaring war on the Mamelukes, when a month into the war he gets a 100 trad general event and rolls a 5/6/5/2, negating essentially every advantage i had.

Play as the Ottomans, you can expand in pretty much any direction and spread your aggresive expansion modifier around the place.

I also used to play mainly Total War however once I got used to the superior diplomacy and the bigger strategic scope of the gameplay I can't go back.
