First they reveal they are filling in Tibet, a place I have been hoping would be playable instead of wasteland for a long time. then they reveal they are fleshing out Manicheanism, a religion I have been hoping would get more mechanics because I just find it neat, as well as adding a few new religions, including Bon in Tibet. Fantastic.

And now flipping China?! That''s it, I am officially hyped for this next DLC, so far this has been everything I have been hoping for in the eastern edge of the map.

Great job, Paradox.

Yeah, same here.
And if this DLC were to add a bureaucratic government type...that would be extremely nice.

Indeed, though what a bureaucratic government type would entail in practice is an open question.

Not sure what you mean with this?
A new government type, that somewhat resembles Chinese government from that period.

But what does that mean in practice? Appointment succession as for holy orders? Or something Catholic bishopric investiture succession (with your having the option to appoint the successor, but not needing to do so)?

Maybe a form of meritocracy? Where your nominated heir would be likely to inherit your highest ranking title only should you earn enough prestige (or Merit Points designed for this purpose) and not get the Emperor mad at you, while a failure to do so would mean only lowest titles are continued and a terrible job could cost you a military intervention or even the dreaded nine familiar exterminations!

Putting some meritocracy in there... that's really tough. Imagine that your only son is 'dumb'. This would mean that the Emperor would not want to take your son as successor of yours to govern the protectorates. That's a tough gameover.

He said you would still keep your smaller possessions (i.e. counties and baronies).

Great job, Paradox.

Love that they're filling in Tibet, and I love that they're fleshing out the Manichean religion.

But, the fact that they're not extending the map to include China is a major disappointment for me. Putting a powerful entity in the game that can launch invasions into your territory, but you're powerless to strike back at is pretty lame.

On top of that, I was looking forward to the challenge of taking on China as a nomad. Explore and conquer new lands and peoples, and all that.

This way of handling China just seems like a fancy facade since you can't actually physically interact with the main Empire.

Yeah, same here.
And if this DLC were to add a bureaucratic government type...that would be extremely nice.

They might add in a new government type for China, but it honestly seems like a lot of work when they're only adding in one, typically minor, physical realm to the game. Especially when this"Western Protectorate" (or whatever it's called) isn't the actually run by the Emperor, just one of his agents.

So, they could probably say that the Protectorate's relationship with the Emperor isn't really feudal, but the Protectorate itself functions basically like a feudal realm-- in the event that they didn't want to go through the trouble of coming up with a whole new government type. My money is on them not taking the trouble.

Likely all these things will follow real history... so, the same emperors in China as in real life, living and dying when in real life.

I doubt this. I mean... why should there be Yuan emperors if the Mongols didn't exist?

And many respons of the devs sound way more dynamic:

Yes - the Emperor and Dynasty will be converted, and EU4 Ming will be replaced by whatever is in CK2 (Yuan, Tang, etc). Culture and religion will also be converted over. Any land held by the Protectorate will be given to China proper. :)
So religion and culture can likely change.

This way, the emperor keeps the same name during life and death, and the name they're generally known by is used.

-zu for the founder of each dynasty. -zong for everyone else.

Sounds like names are random.

They could do the bureaucratic form by adapting what they have for republics. You are the head of a house and your goal is to build prestige, marry into the Imperial family, maybe control trade post type holdings and possibly become Emperor.

They haven't said that at all.

Not sure how you'd strike back in a meaningful way if the provinces for the main Empire aren't on the map. Nowhere to march any armies.

Sure, you can take back the provinces that China invades, but that sounds pretty darn unsatisfying.

How else do you figure you could strike the main Empire? Maybe they'll throw in a few events. Even if they have you a real big one like assassinating the Emperor, you won't really get to see the fallout. The best I can see happening is an event that says "Oh boy, you got them good... You should see it. Chaos. Pain. They're real sorry they messed with you. Honest."

I'd love to see it happen, but I seriously doubt there will be an avenue to becoming emperor of China if the main imperial provinces aren't on the map. Any internal uprisings would have to play out off the map through event chains or something... I just don't see it working.
