So I could not wait and got AoW and after a hands-off game (I know it's not much but still), these are my considerations about the game:

- you can now see horses and camels! And the aztec soldiers wear a cute mask
- Manchu area: same imbalance as before, Korea aggressive and super strong went on to conquer all the manchu tribes with her ally krochin, she also conquered half of Japan... Ming and Oirat very strong
- Timurids super stable and strong: lots of rebellions but they have no problem getting rid of them, basically same as 1.7
- Poland lucky mauled the Ottomans. Ottomans have a tough time facing Poland AND Austria in Europe
- Spain-France-England way more balanced, seems ok now
- Netherlands did not form
- Very weird Denmark-Sweden relations: in 1.7, they would trade a few provinces, now Denmark is able to conquer half of Sweden in a war, Sweden becomes a patchwork mess
- Brandenburg survives a bit better
- 30 year war was won by protestants but so far the catholics did not try to regain power. It's a fun mechanic but there should be more than 1 war..
- nationalist/patriot rebels seem very weak overall. paesant/pretender/noble rebels way stronger
- coalitions non existent
- i got a few crashed but performance is same or better than before
- AI changes rivals way more often, well done here

Overall nice effort but still balance issues remain from 1.7 and new ones have arisen

Any clues what could have caused that?

I don't know, my first crash was when I was first launching the game. The second crash was about 50 years into the game, playing at speed 5. But then I noticed the computer cable was disconnected and the laptop had switched to integrated graphics... After that no more crashes

in my game sweden conquered denmark after denmark integrated norway, because denmark got beaten in 3 bad consecutive wars, also portugal got a pu over castille and integrated them in the 1500`s

its now 1640 and I am about to launch an invasion of india to get master of india achievement

overall the performance have increased with the beta patch and also when I bought art of war dlc, without art of war its sluggish

also netherland formed, they remained strong and had 70% share of english channel trade node, then got beaten by austria 2-3 times lost half is provinces and went back to 16% trade power, I have second best income next to portugal who has about 250 ducats income and france being third about 50 ducat less,

taking half of sweden you say.

....I seem to notice warscore for provinces is vastly decreased.

France only needs like 50ish warscore to take the 4 provinces from England.
Brittany can be vassaled in one go - only like 70ish warscore too.

I noticed the diplo vassal threshold is fairly low as well.

My considerations:

The game is overall more balanced or the same; in some regions, I noticed the same behavior as before. In others, more balance, as in less blobs.
The game is overall more demanging, performance wise. This one was a surprise to me, but the game is stuttering like there is no tomorrow to me in speed 5.
Vassal feeding is slower.
Combat is better (Duh). More informative, more rewarding visually (those little pics really did a difference, liked it) and more clear.

I'm still around mid game, but I'll update on my progress.

Well, here's my observations:

-Obligatory Byzantium nerf included.
-Marches are awesome. Especially for smaller nations.
-The Tradenode mapmode is a performance killer now.
-The 50% LA on colonization sucks big time. Was the first thing I changed in the defines.
-Kongo has been nerfed to hell and back.
-Playing natives is fun. At least if you take out aforementioned 50% base LA.
-Punjab still has no decent trade node. Kashmir is outgoing only.
-Ethiopia can easily become a world power thanks to being in the muslim group with weak neighbours.

Guess there's still way more to see. All in all it's a great DLC. But that Byzantium and 50% LA crap do taint it quite a bit.

Autonomy lowers the war score price of provinces, the more the cheaper.

And to the person above me, where do you find the 50% autonomy colony in the files, as i would also like to change it.

Why is this exactly? Are the Manchu tribes just too weak or do they not ally together or something? Give Jianzhou lucky?

add on to that the fact that hordes don't get unit upgrades... that means post 1500s the manchu neighbors (ming, korea, japan, etc) can just faceroll over the hordes.

Not sure about your Manchu tribes, but in 3 games where I've watched, Haxia will vassal/start soaking the rest within 100 years no matter who tries to bother them from outside.

In my current game, Manchu has formed and ming is riddled with peasants, so I may actually see a Qing.

Ofc, Muscovy is also dead by a combo of Novgorod and Golden Horde.

- Timurids super stable and strong: lots of rebellions but they have no problem getting rid of them, basically same as 1.7

In both of my games in 1.8 Timurids have imploded due to rebels within five years of game start. I honestly don't like that, as the Timurids can't even conquer their way into India after they've exploded into rebels because one of the states that spits out is Afghanistan.

- coalitions non existent

They still exist. Nations that have truces with an aggressor can't join a coalition against them, though, which means they're a lot more sane to actually fight, and fighting them actually has a larger advantage than just "fighting the entire world just to take provinces the size of Saxony," which is nice. It also gives some interesting incentive to truce break.
