No mods, just latest version and Flashpoint. It was career mode, and I started at Illiushin. Needless to say, I took a tonne of contracts for cash and bought the thing before leaving the system or salvaging even a single mech.

I now have a Gauss Enforcer, because I still don't have any heavier mechs with ballistic hardpoints (I do have a BNC-3M, because Flashpoint has a sense of humour).

Truly, Illiushin produces some excellent cheese.

Nice! This gives me hope that I can one day make a Dual Gauss King Crab. One can dream.

I found a double heat sink at mine and it was taunting. Went back a while later for the chance it would still be spawned at the vender but no luck. Still funny and it gave me a better idea that the loot tables are open for sale.

The Black Markets appear to have pretty much everything valid. I have a whole SLDF Highlander for sale in the Black Market of my current system, but at 24,000,000 credits not much chance of stretching my meager finances to even get close to it! (I only have about 4,000,000 credits).

I clearly need to check the Black Markets more often. :)

if you get the gauss where does the ammo come from - my single gauss mech only has 2 tons IIRC ??
My experience is that, wherever you have a Gauss Rifle available, there will be a ton of ammo available too. That means that the one I bought (for 1.6M C-bills) was in a location that also had an ammo bin available (for a much more modest 55K C-bills).

Similarly, my Gauss from the flashpoint also came with an ammo bin.

And now there needs to be a flash point for raiding the black market.

Yeah, you can go ahead and take one tbh, I'm up to three somehow. I don't even know where the third one came from, it just sort of appeared.
Did you take a crit on one in a mission? Pre 1.3 there was a bug that if the gauss was critter 1 time (appears orange on the mech status display in mission) , but not 2 (destroyed). Then a new one would appear in your inventory and the original would be fixed at the end of the mission. The bug may still exist. Too bad the bug doesn’t spawn more ammo...

I have a dual gauss King Crab and it is glorious (I played through Flashpoint with my post-campaign save). I found the Large Pulse Lasers disappointing though, Large Laser +++ is better for less heat and weight.

I found an whole SLDF Highlander plus a heat exchanger in a regular store while I was hopping around between planets with black market stores. I guess the RNG was being nice to me that game-day.

How do I get access to the black market anyway? I could not find an answer to that so far. Do I have to finish the campaign if I don't play in career mode?

I started a new campaign, and got access very early on. All you have to do is be in good with the pirate faction, and at some point you will get a event that asks if you want to pay a membership fee to get access to the black markets. What you pay will be tied to your reputation with the pirates. After that, the star map will be market with icons denoting the planets with black markets.

I found it convenient to stick to pirate missions where the opposing force was Capellans, Directorate, Taurians or local government, and avoid missions with anyone else where the opfor is pirates. Yes, you miss out on a lot of juicy missions, but that's all part of the trade-off for the access.
