I have been playing for quite a while, and I have started to think the game is too easy. Yes, I can play with a smaller country, but that only makes it difficult in the beginning. Once you get bigger again, it becomes easy again. I am playing on the hardest difficulty.

Part of the reason why I believe it is too easy are
1. Diplomacy. Currently if you are smart you can get almost any country to ally with you and unless they have a reason not to they will join your wars. Also, countries hardly ever betray you, and only form alliance against you if you expand at an extreme rate.
2. Rebellions are too easy, and there are too few rebellion events. What I experience is a 10K rebellion once a decade, which are quickly destroyed with my army. I have never been forced to give rebellions what they want, ever
3. It is too easy to manage a big empire. Once you get big the game gets easier, but in real life getting big also had its disadvantages. This again, could probably be solved by having more rebel events?

Is there any mods that I can use, to make the game harder?

have you tried playing with AI bonuses and hard difficulty (and lucky random or historical to boot)?

this wont stop your power. but it will increase your enemies power.

OP has the right idea. When the game gets too easy then you should find "third party" ways to make it more challenging instead of forcing greater difficulty on everyone.

Static modifiers are your friend, however, some of them are broken in the new patch (ai unit production buffs for example).
Found it, but not sure which modifiers I should change. There are lots of them.

Play Ironman? (at least harder that regular)
Can't play Ironman, because I have mods. But I don't think it would make too much difference, because I don't need to reload much.

Easiest fix is to, as others said, play with ai bonuses, lucky nations, and hard difficulty. After that then challenge yourself with specific achievements or create your own goals that aren't world conquering. Try playing something like Ancona on the italian peninsula. If you are good enough for almost any challenge then mod the ai bonuses first so that they give you a challenge. That would be easy to do.

Ironman has ai bonus AND lucky nations. Everyone knows regular games are easy, Ironman is what you want.

I use MEIOU & Taxes which is a little bit harder and feels a little more authentic than vanilla.

Good countries I have found for a challenge that runs quite a way into the game are Georgia and Shirvan->Shiite Persia . Hard but not suicidal starting situation, followed by a mid game surrounded by hostile superpowers

Random rebel events is just artificial difficulty, though. I'm not sure why you would want those, considering there's no way to skillfully dodge random rebel events by playing well or anything of the sort. It's a lot of why random stability drop events are bogus. "Hey, I see you're doing really well! How about some Decadence?"

Really... oh my, I may actually try to play ironman again. AI bonuses are just annoying but hard sounds like a useful challenge. Good to know!
