So, I was away from the game for... Quite some time. But am finally getting back into it. I booted up a game, and made myself as a random count in Normandy. Billy the Bastard goes off to war in England, gets captured, and comes back home withe his tail between his legs. But he has a bunch of kids. So I married one of the daughters, because holy cheeseballs, she had like 20 Intrigue, and I wanted in on that shizznit. Since my current spymaster had all of four...
Well, I get married, and eventually die of an illness.
Now, my son, dear little Jacky-Boy, known to his friends as "GOOD GOD WHAT IS THAT ON YOUR FACE?!", is count. And when mum kicks it at the ripe old age of 29 (SHE had Syphilis, but Count Me didn't? I smell shenanigans.) After a few disastrous incidents, and an invasion of Normandy, Duke Some French Guy has become Duke of Normandy.
Well, Duke Frenchy and I don't really get along, see. So I look and I see that my dear old buddy, the Count of Evreaux and Vexin happens to have a rather strong Count-For-Normandy faction. I decide to join it because, well, why not?
Then, WAR WERE DECLARED. The Duke of Normandy versus Evreaux-Vexin...
And to my surprise, I'm not on Evreaux-Vexin's side.
In fact, our buddy Evreaux-Vexin has founded a Jacky-Boy For Normandy faction, and declared war.
I wisely stay out of it, because, well, I can't join Evreaux, and who WOULDN'T Want to be Duke. (Apparently, the answer is Evreaux)
And then, he wins, and I am Duke Jacky the First, holder of all the territory of... Okay, the same county, but I get a cool hat now.
But apparently... The answer is NOT Evreaux. Becuase you see, after I defeat... Darn near every other count in Normandy, Evreaux reveals that he has founded a very powerful "Evreaux-Vexin-For-Normandy faction" and intends to get rid of Dear Old Duke Jacky (by old I mean 52. So old enough to have the Old character portrait, but otherwise...)
Jacky of Normandy ends up catching a blow to the head and dying, leaving his dear son, Alexander, the Ducal Throne.
Alexander gets himself captured, and when the war's over, Duke Evreaux doesn't want to let him out. Poor Al is only 17, but he manages to last until 23 until he dies, heirless.
I ended up out of it in the 1140s. And I feel like that shouldn't have happened...
I suppose my question is - Why did he found a faction to install someone else if he wanted to be Duke? Why would you even do that? And why does EVERY count have a title on Normandy? Did I do something wrong? Are they all forging claims?
THat really seemed a bit odd to me.
