EDIT: I suggest everyone at least read the first page before responding.

I paid for a complete game and then some through all the DLC. I thought, "Finally a good space empire sim." and then it is going to get neutered for the sake of balance? I did not buy an alpha game; this change is too large, and basically voids the product.

Where will I send the bill to get my complete refund?

Since I discovered this game I've been playing it with my friends several times a week, frequently going into work in the morning with bags under my eyes because we couldn't put it down. The currently proposed ( ? or underway ? ) FTL changes will take all of my enjoyment and transform it into every other game of this type. I'm not a big fan of those games. If I wanted to play Civilization with a space skin, I would have bought Civilization and put on my pretend helmet.

I do not want a fair game, I want a crushing representation of space combat I can share with my friends. That's what I paid for. We play this like a game of DND, not checkers.

You're still capable to play on current build of the game. You're free to not buy new DLC/install patch which accompanies it to not have these changes.

I'm not with aboard with devs at all regarding proposed changes, but trying to pressure someone this way, especially in single player game (where you're not forced to install new patch to keep playing) is just pathetic.

Then don't update.

You bought a license to use a piece of software, you didn't enter into any sort of contract that said that you are guaranteed updates to the software that you like. They don't even have to release a single update for you though it would be considered bad business practice not to work on it post-launch and they would likely lose customers. Just like how you are free to go elsewhere for future games if you are unhappy with this.

I am unaware of a way to download older versions of the game for new players.
Is there such a thing?

When one of my friends accidentally allows steam to upgrade the game will he be able to downgrade and continue to play with us?

Can we still play online with outdated versions of the game?

I have only owned it for two weeks.

See this thread for information on how to revert Stellaris to a previous version.

In Steam go into the beta options for the game, it will let you downgrade. As long as you are both on the same update you should be able to play together.

I agree that the FTL changes are complete garbage. If it had been this way in the first place, I probably would not have bought Stellaris plus all of the DLCs so far.
Still, the money has been spent, and the hours invested. Can't get either back, so I will trudge on. Likely, will play less and less now, until it fades from my play cycle. Too bad, really.

As for playing with the old version. Yeah, good plan. Lets also play with no mods, and no future DLCs, because BOTH of those will require up to date versions of the game from that point on.

I'm kind of sad about loosing DLC, but I could continue to play with the current version.

I still can't believe people like hyper lanes.

You can not do ambushes with them: counting the days it takes your friend to make a single warp jump and then making a long range jump into the same system on their exact arrival day is fun on a bun.

After several games spanning several hundred hours the only consensus in my group was that hyper lanes sucked and were not fun. It might just be that none of us are huge fans of sci-fi properties that use that kind of travel.

It just doesn't ~feel~ like space travel. It might as well be trains on the ground.

well this is honestly the first time i heard someone saying that he/she doesn't want a fair game...

This is baffling me as well... there are mods out there basically enables cheat mode for players, why not use those, right? I think chances are high some modders will try to recreate the "old" parallel FTL system on the new version... if that's possible.
