To be honest i was very sceptical at first but bought the dlc anyway. After an extensive playtrough over the weekend i have to say i really like it now. It adds some flavor to the later game, which allways seemed a bit boring to me.

Interesting that we haven't seen a surge of SI AARs, each prevous major DLC saw a bump in them.

I'm not a fan of this DLC, and don't buy the "no time was wasted" argument (was it the product of labor of people who work at your company? If so, it consumed manhours of work time. If not, then why are you selling someone else's property?), so I won't be buying it.

However, I've said before that a Mesoamerica mod would be very cool.

I'm not saying I know what happens in Paradox, but my theory is that SI was byproduct of EUIV, after all Mesoamerica is popular topic in EUIV forum and Paradox is making historical research and graphics for Native American nations. So maybe they use some of the stuff they used in DLC also in EUIV.

And when it comes to DLC itself, I first thought that this is silly and completely unhistorical DLC. But after more thought I came to conclusion that it might be harmless and funny fantasy scenario. While I prefer history, I occasionally allow myself to enjoy fantasy scenarios, like that Jules Verne scenario in Civ2. Sunset Invasion scenario has reminded me about the similar premise in Raymond E. Feist's The Serpentwar Saga, but the difference is that you play with (alternative) historical nations instead of fantasy kingdoms. While I was skeptical it turned out to be great fun playing that scenario. Sunset Invasion isn't something I would turn on when I play more historical games, but sometimes fantasy can be equally fun.

IIRC Paradox contracted other people to make it for them. It didn't take up time on Paradox's schedule.

Actually, you can buy the DLC and then tick it off in the launcher box, so you are sure it won't be used in your game.

Then just turn on the paradox data tracking (Help us improve ...) for your CK2, so you deliver them the message "I don't want ..." each time you run the game.
Why would you want to buy it, if you don't want it in game?

Obviously you're only being ironic. That makes as much sense as telling a band you don't like their music by buying their albums and then smashing them.

What if I only want potatoes but no Aztecs?

You already have a game called EU3 that introduces American plants and animals to late Medieval / early Modern Europe. Putting them in CK2 would make the game... what's that dreaded, awful word?... oh, yeah. "Anachronistic." ;)

Although I do like the image of William the Conqueror coughing on his first cigar, like Jeremy Irons in the "Borgias" miniseries. :p

Are you telling me that we're THREE DLCs away from playable Potatoes!? Damn you Paradox!

Thank goodness for humor.

Other than that how can there possibly be any more to say about this DLC (besides gameplay/tech stuff) STILL ...I mean I took a 2-3 week break from here (mostly) even. Yeah, yeah, I can skip the threads but they are hopelessly addictive and unhealthy -- kinda like potato chips.

Paradox has already explained several times why no time was "wasted" on this DLC, but you're right: your wallet is still the most effective way to vote.
Yes, and it rang hollow each and every time time they explained it. Now they've even got some of us repeating the absurd line for them.

When they have Betas for other games that are, supposedly, "finished", but have been languishing for months, it's a understandably grating to see resources dedicated to marginal fantasy projects. And given Paradox's record with abandoned patches, it's tough for people who'd rather see the management, QA, programming, artistic, or contractor resources assigned elsewhere that this was a good thing. No product or patch can ever be produced and distributed resource-free. Period. The assertion is laughable and disingenuous.

Not saying they can't or shouldn't do things like this. Companies have to assign resources where the money flows. Indeed that's the only thing that makes any business sense. And the resource cost may have been minimal or fixed, but it wasn't zero. Probably, it was worth it, from a business perspective, but those resources could also have been doing something else, assertions to the contrary notwithstanding. The implication that SI was produced via some magical, cost-free mechanism is simply false.
