While there is alot of anger is seems that the Aztecs appear I'm very happy they do. :) I love Mesoamerica and to see them get some action here is only praiseworthy. But I recognize I'm in a minority.

I bought it as soon as it became available, to show my support for Paradox to add more fun elements into the game. History is all well and good, but a little fantasy thrown in is a good thing IMO.

Like I say, I have no desire to have the Aztecs appearing in my playthroughs, is there any point in me buying this DLC?

Yes there is. You could buy it and give it to someone e.g. me.

Serious is fun in simulation and strategy gaming.
That is so well said it almost hurts.

However, I am personally a bit torn with this DLC. So far I've bought every other DLC and audio package for CK2. I've bought every graphics package as well (even though I hate the fact that I can't play medieval war with plain NATO style counters). :)

I've bought HoI 3 from Gamer's Gate even though I already had the whole series as a boxed packages. I have bought bunch of other Paradox stuff, just because I love their strategy games. I want to support the art of creating excellent software. No other development studio really puts effort of similar degree in their games in form of historical study, modifiability and listening to the fans. And a year or so after the release, their stuff is a real bargain, really.

Then this Aztec Challenge thing... As you guys keep saying, the rules are simple: if you don't like the idea don't buy the DLC, it is not an important patch or anything. I can't help but to agree.

I'm an all-out sandbox player, but I find the whole idea of Aztec invasion on medieval Europe a bit too daring - like shuffling the deck in midst of a conventional game of cards just to see who can keep up. I find it utterly ahistorical yet strangely interesting scenario nonetheless. If CK2 had the same scope (AKA map) as Europa Universalis series, I'd immediately bought the DLC. At the moment I find the whole idea a bit too strange. I am not buying. To me, stuff like this sounds something that should have been done as ahistorical mods by fans, not as official content.

If a pagan CK2 addon is ever announced I'm preordering it the very same minute. But Aztecs... too odd for my taste, I don't want to support a DLC like this, even if I admire the boldness and imagination. Maybe later.

I'll never buy a single sprite pack for HoI either, even though I love the series... The war on grand level is supposed be fought on simple maps and counters... everything else is a step towards Halo and this 3d nonsense to me. Please, concentrate on the important stuff, as you usually do.

This is just my take on the issue. I understand why more historically leaning players are furious - and being a "what if?" sandbox player myself I can also see how some players welcome this DLC gladly. Strongly-not-yet-buying I stand somewhere in the middle. :)

Keep on supporting what you hold dear to you.

/R

A valid analogy would be:

Imagine you go to the cinema, suppose you go to see "The Last Emperor", "Ghandi", "Shindler's List", or any other "historically set" movies, they don't have to be absolutely accurate, you just get in the mood of the historical period... then suddenly there's a Cameo of "Eddie Murphy" doing some nonesense... it ruins the whole movie.

I won't buy the DLC, so I don't get Eddie Murphy into my movie, but I would really like to have some good DLC before they put Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller ¬¬

Keep the good work!

It's far more like if you went to the cinema, Ghandi was showing... however, before the showing they were selling cuddly R2D2's to adverise the new Star Wars... You can buy it and it will be a bit of harmless fun, or you could decide that you would rather spend money on popcorn so you don't.

Either way it doesn't matter as it only affects your viewing experience if you want it... If not you have lost absolutely nothing...

I'm debating on buying this myself. I don't need everything to be serious but I'd rather a deepening and expanding of what the game already has to offer. I don't see what this DLC brings to the table that isn't already available.

Invasion from the opposite side of the map, it has been quite fun so far. I am planning to configure one to happen at the same time as the mongols come in.

Ok, The Dude Abides... as long as they only make this little DLC and doesn't delay work on a new Victoria II DLC for the making of a new MMOGSG (massively multiplayer online grand strategy game)...

I think people need to get over the DLC already. I haven't gotten it because it's not particularly interesting to me, and even though I'd love to support Paradox a) it costs money b) I'd have to remember scroll through all the DLCs to tick off the box almost every single time I wanted to play the game and c) I'm not sure how much I'd play it. It looks really well done though, so that almost makes me want to get it (ooh shiny DLC!). If you don't want to get the DLC, there really only one response: ok. Get it or don't get it, or get it later, it's pretty tiresome to hear this rehashed, although it's died down a bit (thankfully).

The whole thing it's more something like
