I have played a ton of republics. Not Novgorod (which is a big one) but, off the top of my head, I have played as Venice, Ragusa, Florence and Milan (republican government change).

Maybe I am crazy but to keep the republican tradition on an acceptable level (70-80), I basically had way way less MP than when I play as a monarchy without utterly shit luck.

I basically said why in that post. I don't see why I am wrong?
The thing is, unless they've changed something drastically in the recent patches, you don't need to be that high. Anything above the level where you fall into a dictatorship (50?) should be fine.

Republican tradition also gives -unrest and when you get to dangerously low levels you start getting shit events which is why I said 70.

Also yes, if you have a young ruler which has high stats, you will drop below that but it is not optimum in most situations.

Yeah like the 30+ page thread about a significant rebalance when it comes to idea groups that wasn't even put in the patch notes. No dev response, no attempt to explain until months down the road when it finally came out as "multiplayer balance", a line of reasoning that had been thoroughly debunked as ineffective and offensive.

Under the assumption that you're talking about the 50% block:
1) It was commented on when the change was made, that it was primarily about stacking MIL ideas (both in SP and MP). If it was left out of patch notes it certainly wasn't intentional to do so.
2) It wasn't purely about multiplayer balance, though that was a big aspect to it.
3) Who has proven balancing around multiplayer (note that by saying that I mean balancing the game so that it works in both SP and MP, the old 'we only balance for multiplayer' is still hogwash) to be ineffective, and by what measure? Was there a scientific paper published on EU4 balancing and nobody told me?
4) This is so laughable I hesitate to ask, but do elaborate on how our balancing methods have been proven 'offensive'. Is there a political action group picketing Paradox headquarters because balancing games with multiplayer in mind is an insult to their culture?

Honestly, you do know that just because you imagine something in your mind does not mean it automatically becomes reality... right?

Also, another thing that I wanted to say: while I realise that expecting any changes of this is silly as it won't ever happen in EU4, the one thing that I dislike the most in EU4 is the existence of mana in the first place. It just feels wrong and it's the reason why I stayed on EU3 and didn't want to play EU4 at all after my first game on EU4 1.0 (which I played to 1821) up until Art of War was released when I finally reluctantly made the switch.

This may be true for you, and I think it's unfortunate that you don't find the game to your liking anymore, but there is nothing to suggest your experience is shared by the majority of people who complained about the changes, and quite a lot to suggest that it isn't.

What precisely is it that makes the game unplayable for you now, if I may ask?

Even though the question isn't aimed at me, I'd still like to reply:
For me it's not if it's unplayable or not. It's more the question, am I having (more) fun while doing it (than when doing something else)?
After common sense the answer was "no", I voiced my concern, the consensus was apparently different from my ideas about the game; so I quit.
Right now after "detox" I more or less lost interest in the game altogether. (although seemingly not enough yet to forget about the forum).

I know this is not Fiddler Universalis 4, and don't expect it to be. The thing that does slightly bother me though is that (to me) it feels like a different game than I initially bought.

Was the name of the monarch point resource changed, or is it just 'hip' to refer to it as mana if you don't like the mechanic?

It's a meme from a really, really funny steam review. The problem is that some people think the same joke is funnier each time you tell it.

It was born out of a Steam review, calling administrative MP paper mana, diplomatic bird mana, etc. Became a meme around here, like Square Memel or glorious Ulm.
EDIT: Damn, ninja'd by Wiz himself. I feel kinda honored actually.

Not really. I've called it mana since the first time I saw it in EU4 1.0. Simply because it feels and functions like mana in any game with magic.

I don't really spend a lot of time whining on the forum, I just haven't really enjoyed the game for about six patches, always extremely hopeful for the next patch to fix that for me. I have a little bit of fun with new features and old features working in a more sensible way and then I'm bored again.

Either though I have to say EU4 has become a better game with almost every patch, I think I just fell in love with the incredibly broken things you could do in the first few patches if you knew what you were doing. All the balancing, exploit fixing, and increasing reliance on monarch points reduced the amount of silly things I could do, and those were the things I loved to do.

Well, that, and I already played the game for nearly 3000 hours, so still a satisfied customer :p

The fact that you've been telling the same stale joke for almost two years is not actually to your credit, FYI.
To be fair, I don't really consider it a joke.
As they say it in Russia, it's just a case of calling things their names.
Or you could just consider that a way of passive disagreement.

This may be true for you, and I think it's unfortunate that you don't find the game to your liking anymore, but there is nothing to suggest your experience is shared by the majority of people who complained about the changes, and quite a lot to suggest that it isn't.

What precisely is it that makes the game unplayable for you now, if I may ask?

wel where to start, ok i was very exited to read all the dev diares and they all sounded super cool to me. so yes on day 1 i was very exited bought the new dlc instandly and started my campaign with france iirc, note that im not close to an expert player, i considder myself informed but avarage player. my ultimate goal was to someday conquer the world with a huge nation, in the proces collect as many archievements as possible to learn different aspects of the game. so to be clear, for me the game was already very challenging even though i played 1200 hours of it. to sum up my experiences with common sence i tried france, castille, brandenburg, ottoman, england, ming, japan, vagyagayagaygara and 1 or 2 more countrys i like. none of them got past 1550 most i quited around 1500.

so its not that i didnt like the ideas of common sence, but ingame they yust didnt work out as i thought they would. yes my progress was so much slower then all my previous games in previous patches, and after reading up on it it got confirmed that the gamedesign was ment to be much more difficult. as you can see that in this case for me the ultimate goal was completely taken away. not with 3000 hours am i gona archieve that.

the extras common sence brought didnt work out either, development totaly pointless when u wanna expand as fast as possible, forts, wel u know rebbel scum and i really still dont get there influence area's, all my lovely unique buildings are gone. new buildings look pointless: 1 you have lots of money to create more money¿, 2 running out of building slots way too fast.

oh yeah 1 thing that reminded me of my ottoman game, was pretty cool at first: i released persia as a opm, and hey i got half of timmys territory to join persia when they rebelled, cool time to intregrate right? wrong i dont remember the exact time and cost, but heck u can see what i mean, if u compare that cost to pre cs.

what botheres me about paradox so much, wel i saw a million complaints all over the place, and yes i mostly joined the conversation because i was so stunned about this different game called eu4, but not a single response from paradox, wel i couldn keep up with all the posts so some might have gotten by me, then this community who saiz i have to go back to previous pathc and stop bitching, for the last time, NO i loved how eu4 developed until cs, so i wanted to be upto date and enjoy new patches as they came along. wel and then you have those who say, hey what do you want free coring cost to make it fun? heck where where those people complaining pre cs about coring cost being to cheap? u cant dictate how difficult the game is for ME. also i hate the fact that these HUGE changes never where discussed in the devdiares. and where simply forced down my u know what.

ok to sum up: best game ever for me, until cs. i already proposed different difficulty settings for ironman, but apperently im dumb as a monkey by saying that, so yeah end game i suppose
