Playing with EEP I found something that did not happen with Regular EU2 GC.
When I win a sea battle with a nation (i.e. with Spain in 1494) the message tells me that I steal the maps from it but I get nothing. It happened several times because, as France, I declared war to Spain with the only purpose to obtain maps of the new world. I won several battles and I got the message but I did not have the maps.

Do you still get maps when you take a capital?

Remember that you only get maps of the area you're fighting in when you win a sea battle.

I did not try to take the capital but I tought that when I get the message "You steal the maps", I obtain the knowledge of the discoveries made by the opponent... I remember that it worked like this... maybe I'm wrong?

EU1 gave you all his maps when it said that you stole them. In EU2 you only rarely get any information at all when it says that you steal the maps, and it is usually quite pointless.:(

Best way is to control the enemy capital. Naval map stealing only tells you of a few areas at the best.

I think you get all of the unknown areas that the ship you sank has been too. So if you sink a ship that just came back from Cuba, and you do not know where Cuba is yet, when you sink the ship you do. Pointless when you fight against their home fleets.

I dumo, that kind fo information isn't sored in the saved files AFAIK.
So, if it was like that, if you load a game and you win a sea battle you wold allways get nothing, and I'm almost sure that isn't the case...

Well, it was a reasonable idea. Made reasonable of sense to me but I never really rely on war to gain maps so I would not know.
