I'm not too surprised, with a PLC like that! After all, the evil Lehistani hussars are obviously more of a danger than the infelicitous Austrian pikemen.
there should be a sticky explaining the 30YW, that way we can reduce the amount of threads complaining about Ottomans/Russians joining, or a protestant fighting on the Catholic side and vice versa. essentially in a simplified explanation:
political considerations > religious considerations
That's probably because Byzantium is in the Protestant League, makes sense to me... the AI seems to consider rivalries when deciding the side. This is not a history simulator.

In fairness, having some countries putting rivalries above their religion when joining the Thirty Years' War or aiding one side is completely historical. See: France and the Ottomans.

Byzantium? As if they'd give a crap about that. Look at that PLC however! I'd definitely join the Catholic League as the Ottomans here. Not to mention that it seems like the Catholic League is way more powerful (if not for a player PLC, that is. But the AI lacks to acknowledge it's inferiority) and thus might end up crippling the Turks worst enemy in this playthrough.
