I disagree with adding the Hagia Sophia as a Wonder because Constantinople is too Awesome.

Yes, Im saying this cause Constantinople is too awesome,

Its the Queen of Cities, aside from the Hagia Sophia, there is the Theodosian Walls, Imperial Palace, and Hippodrome that at least would qualify for wonder status, and with there only being one slot in the county and wonders being indestructable, making one wonder exist in the slot by default removes player agency in representing the others.

I will say that there was some valid critisicsm about some of the comments paradox made about the Hagia Sophia, but I find that i prefer Constaninople being open to player alteration, I wish the county of Rome was in the same postion instead of having its slot filled by a wimpy papal palace.

as long as wonders permanently take up the slot in significant countys I would rather see them open to player agency unless theres an indisputable reason for a wonder to be there, like the Pyramids or the Lighthouse in Alexandria. and if the Hagia Sophia was the one hallmark wonder of Constantiople i would have no issue with it being there

I get that it sucks that the system only allows one indestructible wonder. It seems like a bad early oversight even devs are having trouble working around. But it seems done now so it's not worth arguing unless devs want to look back into the code.

But you've hit on what is basically the issue with single wonders. Wonders tend to be built in the best/coolest/most important cities and those are also the cities players will want to use for their own special wonder and that's rough.

But fuck that, I'd rather have the lighthouse of alexandria, the hagia sophia, the pyramids, and the papal palace in the most historically and neato cities than not have them represented at all. When it comes down to it it's an arbitrary decision as to what wonders are cool enough to restrict player agency over and people have agreed the hagia sophia is cool as heck (and it is).

This reminds me of the post by the guy mad about stonehenge because it takes up the county he wants to build his special church in. Most people prefer stonehenge to the freedom to create anything in a handful of counties that already have wonders.

Well with al that said. I know it's not as great as building your wonder in the city of the world's desire but can you live with building your wonder in the province next to it? or some other neato county?

I know I'll be building a fancy new imperial palace and temples just outside of constantinople.

well between the two i would rather see constantinople have the Theodosian Walls as the wonder instead of the Hagia Sophia, im pretty sure the walls predate the Hagia Sophia by a significant margin. and the Theodosian walls is literaly the artwork for the great walls wonder.

Or just move your capital? Nothing is stopping people from doing that.

I think that great cities like Constantinople and Rome (and maybe other famous imperial capitals too) should be wonders in their own right and their individual famous buildings (like Hagia Sophia, Theodosian Walls, Hippodrome or Colosseum in Rome etc) should count as their improvements/upgrades.

I know this suggestion is probably impossible/unpractical and too heavy for the game but I feel it would be the only way to accurately represent them.

Other than that we should just be grateful we got such a neat feature for free! :D

The Theodosian Walls predating the Hagia Sophia is kind of a non-consideration. They were both in place well before the game starts.

Obviously Constantinople was a city of many wonders, it's frustrating to not be able to represent that. But leaving it wonder-less is the worst solution to that particular problem. And if it can only be one, the Hagia Sophia is the clear best choice.

Actually this is a really great suggestion, "City of Wonders" type wonder that allows certain historically important cities (Rome/Constantinople e.g.) to have multiple types of wonders as attributes (like spikes).

Obviously for balance you'd probably give these attribute wonders lesser bonuses so they don't become too OP (also the Aurelian walls of Rome could need restoring) but it'd be a nice work around

I think the concept of "Restoring Wonders" could also be interesting. Locales with past Roman influence could restore the local Colosseum, or Greeks restore the Acropolis, or Mamluks restore Petra. Could have a small benefit before being restored, then become regular wonders.
