I was going for a neat, symmetrical block style city, somewhat influenced by Barcelona, by placing a small park in the middle of each block. Everything seemed to be going well, except for the trash that kept piling up. My landfill sites were far from full and I had a couple incineration plants just for good measure, traffic was also not an issue.

However, only now in the year 2020 do I take a closer look at the city:



I had no idea that parks generated trash, although it makes sense when you think about it. However, I don't understand why it needs direct road access to be cleaned up. In reality parks don't line their bins on the street waiting for the garbagemen to come pick it up in the morning, you would have council workers go through the park and empty the bins.

In my opinion, parks should either not generate trash or simply get cleaned up slower without direct road access.

In my opinion every building produces to much trash. In a small city you already need a handful of incinerators and streets are always full of garbage trucks thats just unrealistic. We need a mod that makes trash of buildings maybe to 1/4.

Don't parks need to be adjacent to roads to place them? In which case, it begs the question why their rubbish isn't being picked up, if that is the case.

I placed them by laying and then demolishing a dirt road.

I just went and added a short road connecting to each park, confirmed by the parks actually getting visitors, but it looks like the trucks are ignoring them. I watched several of them just drive by. Could it be that the roads specifically need to be connected to one edge of the park rather than just any random block?

Also, why does a park need road access to get visitors? I thought that's what the paths were for.

Only to be placed. You can destroy the road after and the park will still function as long as the Cims can get to it (so no water or cliffs).

Great, now that I have roads connecting to them not only do I have piled up trash but apparently they have high crimes rates. My city's crime rate was always around 5%. Somehow I just cut the ribbon on thirty crack dealing grounds.

Hint: to contine to use the parks with out a road, just create a park that doesnt produce trash and cant withstand a fire :)

Give it time - those trucks already on the roads already have their assignments of where to go.

As for the "why" you need roads - I hear you. I wish I could place parks in the middle of larger residential blocks with no road access, but that's the way it's designed, unfortunately.

Except they didn't function. There were exactly zero visitors in all parks until I connected the roads.

Also, regarding the crime issue, I have two stations and an HQ, and of the total 45 cars, only one is in use.

Yep, I was right. I placed a road along the length of the park that would normally be on the road when you place it, and garbage trucks and police cars swarmed it.

A random road touching it allows visitors, but service vehicles require it to be placed normally on a road.

EDIT: The road doesn't need to span the length of the park, it just needs to connect to the side that would face the road.
