I'm amazed at BGW and Deil for wanting to fight long after they were beaten, and now they say they will DoW every years. Seriously I don't want to become the figure of revenge in this game and I will leave if I do become that. Just face it, you lost, big deal.

well, let them dow, Engel, it's a game, use diplomacy and find new allias :D

Spain for example, but this is a greedy one so forget it. :) he'd sell his own mother for ducats.

HOWEVER that doesn't justify your pathetic behavior, Engel. Deil and BWG like risking till the end, as far as I'm concerned it's still a legal strategy.

Salam just played 20 minutes, the rest of session was all AI. Persian stability will go to +3, the budget sill receive soem dcuats and if bb went up it'll go to same level as before session.

The Austrians will receive 600 ducats (in case they still have loans i'll use them to repay partly loans) :)

About Pibe's request I am sorry but i got no Swedish to edit. :( :p

About Engel's idea; NP, as Pibe said, fidn new allies and use the oportunity to get back evne more german lands. Anyway France/NL suffered a lot last war and will need some years to recover, while you didn't suffer it so much ;) We'll talk later ^^.

Urko, thanks for doing the edits, and nice screenshot. Something's not right with the manu construction in Finland, though - it says it's "in progress" in the city window, but there's no icon over the province?

It's a typicla bug. The icon appears in the moment you order the construction, sicne it was ordered though edit, it doesn't appear. But do not worry; once the manu is built (1st of Jan, 1582) the manu appears. I loaded the save and went on 2 years to make it sure the Manufactory will appear in Abo... But be careful for no one to take the provicne while it's being built, cause construction is happening, no matter icon doesn't appear ;) .

Np about the edits. :)

Sweden: 1528-1580

The Reconciliation of Scandinavia under Gustav Vasa

gustav-vasa.jpg

Gustav Vasa

After the defeat of the Danes in the early 1520's, Swedish ascendancy over Scandinavia seemed assured. However, the unjust Danish exploitation of Sweden for so many years had generated considerable resentment in Sweden. It was widely anticipated that Swedes would trade roles with the Danes, and, perhaps justly, play the part of oppressors and tyrants after so much oppression and tyranny had been visited upon them. After a second war in 1530 liberated Gotland and Bergenshus, most of the crowned heads of Europe expected that the next war would result in the vassalization of Denmark and a purging of Danish nobility.

Gustav Vasa, however, had other plans. Far from small-minded vengeance or a puerile desire to tyrannize the unfortunate Danes, Vasa was determined to follow a much more ambitious and far more dangerous agenda. Vasa understood that Scandinavia was divided not by any intrinsic differences between her native peoples, but that it was Danish tyranny which had set Swedes and Danes against each other. In Vasa's mind, these two peoples were one race, brothers and sisters of common heritage and single destiny. Shortly before the final struggle with Denmark, Vasa announced that all Danes would recieve full citizenship in Sweden when they surrendered, and that no retaliations for Danish atrocities would be carried out.

Full amnesty! In an age when those who lived by the sword died by the sword, Vasa's proclamation was unheard of, and excited considerable opposition in the Swedish court. Swedish nobles, eager to claim the lions share of the spoils of war, pressed Vasa to disenfranchise the entire population of Denmark. In what was to become a significant trend in Swedish history, Vasa refused their request, and instead expropriated some of the most obnoxious noble's estates, granting them to the Swedes who had borne the brunt of the Danish oppression - the merchants of Stockholm.

In Denmark, the reaction was one of relief, and also dismay that the Danish nobility, who had for so many years demonized the Swedish Vasa, could be so wrong about his intentions towards them. In the face of crippling inflation and a depressed economy, the idea of being part of a great Scandinavian union was very attractive. Riots in Copenhagen finally brought down the last Danish regime before Vasa's troops arrived, to be greeted with flowers and cheers as they entered the city, welcomed as conquering heroes.

After the succesful incorporation of Denmark into the reformed Kalmar Union, Vasa turned his attention to the shores of the Baltic sea, subduing first the reckless princes of Pommern who dared to question his right to rule Gotland, and then liberating the protestant provinces of Brandenburg. The greatest test of the last part of his rule, however, came in facing down the fearsome armies of Poland, under the great Polish leader Tarnowski. The Poles, concerned with the might of the new Swedish Kalmar Union, claimed Memel and Kurland for themselves, and while Vasa massed his armies in Copenhagen, Tarnowski captured Pommern and Memel and began to march on Magdeburg. Vasa landed behind the Polish front in Hinterpommern, cutting Polish supply lines, and Tarnowski, realizing his mistake, turned around and marched towards Vasa's hastily constructed defenses across the Oder river.

The battle of the Oder, as it would be known to successive generations of Swedish schoolchildren, was both Vasa's greatest battlefield triumph, the sign of Swedish supremacy in the North, and the end of Poland as a world power. Tarnowski was crushed, and forced to retreat towards the Polish heartland, as Danzig was captured in a Polish counterassault and Memel fell to the British expeditionary force, called to the aid of their Swedish friends. Poland sued for peace, leaving the German provinces of Danzig and Hinterpommern to the burgeoning Swedish realm.

In these years, the foundations of contemporary Sweden were laid, and the next 30 years saw Swedish power extend throughout Northern Germany and the Baltics. Vasa left Sweden infinitely greater than the state he had been born into, and his successors were eager to preserve that legacy, signing agreements with Austria to the South, and Russia to the East, the former providing a land-link between Stockholm and Danzig through Holstein, while the latter arrangement purchased three sparsly populated ugric provinces for Swedish colonization, and the city of Kexholm.

After so many years of war and struggle to unify a balkanized and divided region, Sweden needed great public works and substantial investment to build a powerful economy to weld such an enormous state together permanently. This was to be the work of future kings, who would see to it that Sweden would not only be a just and peaceful society, but a prosperous one as well.

"I AM GOD " (Anonymous- thoguh suspected to be Philip I)

jph1xedited.gif

“look up at the skies, and tell me my boy, what do you see?”
I took a quick glance up at the dark skies, they were filled with a hundred stars all flickering as if trying to wink at me.
“I see, Sir, millions of stars, all glaring down at ME”
“and YOU? YOU alone? What about me, or the rest of the people who live here in Tago?”
“Yes Sir, the stars don’t shine for anyone else but me, I am the divine one, and the stars all move around me, so do people and the rest of the world”
I stood there for a few moments, trying to gather what the boy just said. The world turns around him? He is the center and the rest just circulates him, like the sun around Earth. I was starting to get the feeling that this small boy was born to serve as king, and a great one indeed.
“My boy… and who created those stars?” I asked, trying to get the last answer I needed before making sure I was right in my feelings.
“I did”
“Did you? And how did you do it?” he had quite an imagination.
“Because I’ve created everything that lives in my world. You are a creation of mine, if I would not give you the power to be my teacher, you wouldn’t have been my teacher. If I haven’t had given the stars the definition of being starts they wouldn’t have been starts.”
I was startled for a moment, there, in front of me stood a ten year old, speaking in a philosophical manner, every word he said was though he was a 100 years old, with many years of experience behind him.
“so are you saying that…”
But before I could finish my sentence the boy interrupted me.
“Yes” he said “, I have created God as well. He is here to serve me, and he will…”

***
“All hail the new king of Portugal” came the shout.
“All hail the one and only” the same voice echoed.
“All hail his majesty to ever last the title of king of Portugal”
“All hail he who rules under the might of god!”
ALL HAIL, repeated the crowed. And so the

From the first moment Phillip I took the roll as king of Portugal everything changed. No more fanatic crusades for the name of Christianity, from now on the glory of the king himself was the one to lead him through his actions.
For many years I followed the king, I, the old testimony of the old crown. I was the one who was there for endless years, like a silent stone statue. I was eternal, I was always there and I shall always remain there. As a historian I had the unforgivable task of writing for future generations the truthful history of what happened throughout my lifetime. Though how could I possibly write honestly with a king as Philip leading our people? His geniuses dazzled me, his decisions were so well calculated, how can a king like this be recorded by history truthfully? If I write he never made mistakes then I shall make fun of my roll as an historian, everyone makes mistakes, but… Philip, he was perfect…And he could never do wrong!
First he annexed Portugal, and added its glorious centers of trade into our already expanding kingdom. Then, he decided to colonies the world! It was most important for him to gain control of new areas, new places, and more important, establish healthy relations with our Spanish ally, as well constructing healthy relations with both France and England. He was often quoted saying “A world without enemies is not possible, therefore we must turn our friends to be each other’s enemies, and then we shall be immune to them both”. During his many years of regimen, he made only one mistake. That was no doubt going to a Chinese convert and joining the Buddhist clerics in their endless search for truth. He soon became one of the many clerics. He was renowned, respected, and above all liked! He became the leader of the convert, and soon the province itself detached from the China, and was added to Portugal. The provinces’ name is not quite easy to pronounce therefore I will just say, that if you happen to travel the shores of china, do not be surprised to see a Portuguese city stationed between the Yellow River and the Sea of Java.

But meanwhile, much had happened in Portugal. When he came back he came to a devastated country that had lost much. He could not believe it, the Mughal empire dared declare war and suffocate the free people of Ganges. That was unheard of! But what can Portugal do? She still had troubles from inside. And then Philip decided. Let us kill them all! He lost it! My dearest son, my boy! He became mad! He started killing everyone! Everything that moved! Instead of thinking that he created of GOD, he started believing he had become god! And so, series after series of murdering and violence did bring some stability to the regimen, as his word was the word of god, and thereby was the only word. He killed the nobles who dared oppress him, and then started a new area, that only time could tell what it would develop, and of course I shall record it…
