I've been playing EUII for years but I must admit something.... I'm a terrible cheater, I cheat and cheat and cheat, montezuma, pocahontas, vatican, loyola, you name it I do it. I'd really like to stop but years of cheating have left my EUII playing skills woefully inadequet. I know all the concepts of the game already I just need to learn how to stop cheatting. I just tried Brittany the first time without cheating and all I could settle for was a tiny bit of gold. During the war I got tons of awful events, and those lousy random revolts and indulgence peddlers kept pouring in. Somebody please help me!

Try a major nation if you want to learn and then slowly go to stuff harder. Brittany is definitely not an easy nation. Whatever you do, EU2 is much more fun without cheating so try not to.

Like others have said, try playing nations with decent income. Also, try playing a nation NOT in the colonising game like Poland. (I reccomend AGCEEP) If you can manage the first 100 years, the savegame gets a special value, and you porbably don't want to "ruin" it by cheating.

I don't really call it cheating if you use Vatican in only a few cases, like getting those much needed diplomats during war etc. But spamming all of europe asking for royal marriage.... ;)

Of course it is cheating. The number of diplomats you receive each year reflects the state your country is in. By gaining more diplomats than you should, you are cheating. Whether it is a bad thing is up to you.

Hm i don't cheat but if i get very crappy events i reload .
Furthermore if i loose a battle with e.g. 50k against 5k i reload too .

Rarely i change the conversion result in the savegame file to success if i tried a lot of times in vain grmmml .

I wouldn't call this cheating but i am sure some ppl would :D

Well, if you're skills are devasted because of cheating, you have a really big problem. And as far I am concerned, I often use vatican. Sometimes pocahontas (when colonizing Siberia... :)). Cheats are helpful if you try to do something for a first time - I learnt to play EU using cheats, and I helped myself with alba thing when doing first WC.

I never thought about if before you mentioned it, but suddenly difrules made a lot of sense...:D
esp. if it prevents you from losing

It isnt coincidence that the thread "Cheat Codes" is the most visited thread in the FAQ FORUM  :D

EDIT: Sry, it is the second.

doesn't creating new events count as cheating? or editing your saved game?

if you're serious about stopping, play France. You'll have plenty of cash, and no need to cheat.

I agree with this. It is much more easy to stop cheating if you do not need to cheat. Play France (or England etc). Develop good habits and increase your playing skill. And then, but not earlier than that, do you go back and play the difficult nations.

This holds true for every aspect of life. It is much more simple to stop smoking if your "need" to smoke is small than when it is big. :)
