I really want to play this game, Ive sunk 72 hours into per Steam.
But I cant, this game makes me too angry now and thats because of the factions system.
Before the factions, the game was fantastic, and I would sink all of my time into it.

Now its just not fun and frustrating. I dont like the idea of having another confusing game mechanic to deal with, on top of the tons of other ones already in the game. I dont like my vassals constantly looking for some odd reason to rebel. I dont like playing whack a mole with rebellious vassals.

Is there anything I can do to make it easier at least?
Ive looked all over the forums and tried many suggestions and it doesnt help, Im convinced the AI is just stupid or anti-player at this point.

I used the spymaster to scheme, and Ive bribed, and done everything else.
Yet the AI vassals always want to punch me.


Is there anything I can do? I really want to play this game because I do like it. I just cannot stand this Factions system. :(

CK+ does introduce a much better faction system. Regardless, I'd take vanilla factions over no factions any day. I can't imagine how pointlessly boring a game would be without them.

Just let them go. You get claims over them anyway and then absorb them one by one. Serious factions problems are rare anyway, at least for me.

Personally I prefer the game now that there are factions. What you should do to handle the indpendence factions is:

* Keep vassals happy (over +60 realtion) by making sure you do not own any of their dejure.
* Bribe key vassals.
* Realize that you can select white peace to end a vassal revolt. It is about as good choice as winning the war.
* Free revokation of titles of heretics.

Turn off LoR.

That wont change anything other than disabling retunies.

I honestly don't understand why people don't like the faction system. As long as you have a good monarch who has positive traits and people generally have good relations with him, the faction system handles itself! You face no rebellions or very poor rebellions. And a lot of it makes sense! For example, I just finished a war with my sister. I had combined the thrones of Castille and Wales together into a pretty good blob. There were two daughters of the Queen of Castille, both with a bit of land in Castille. As soon as I gained the throne, I faced a rebellion from my sister. Squashed that and my various kingdoms have been experiencing a time of peace ever since. xD. I am actually even building up my power in Wales to make sure if I faced such a rebellion that people wouldn't freak out, but no problems so far!

Well, faction rebellions can get broing at times. In a game I played a very expansionist Africa conquering most of the Arabian Empire plus Hispania and Italy. This meant I would get one indpendence faction rebellion at every succession which I all would win in quite drawn out civil wars. I am perfectly fine with that controlling a so vast empire should not be easy but it got too preditable after a while. I knew exactly when the rebellion would happen and there was nothing I really could do to prevent it due to my short reign penalty and low prestige.

In other games where I did not expand this crazily it has just been an improvment.

I don't "hate" the factions system, but I do think it's repetitive and obnoxious. They always rebel right when I invade someone and it messes everything up.

I usually just bribe faction leaders until they disband, or find some combination of things to butter them up. If that doesn't work, I say screw it and play it cheap, just assassinating whoever is leading the faction. The success percentage is an outright lie, so I just save and reload until I kill them without being caught. Yeah, it's cheap, but I kinda agree with the OP. If I didn't do it I'd probably stop playing because the game becomes more work than fun.

Doesn't that mean you will have to assinate vassal after vassal? Since if you o not defeat the rebellion a new faction will just form.

I generally use factions to my advantage most of the time, using them as an excuse to take over titles or banish/execute rivals.

I do however understand that Empires need a little work in CK2, both on the faction scaling side and less empire blobbage overall. Factions do work better in kingdoms in my opinion, that might be why people have different opinions of them. I also agree that the game would bore me without the challenge of them, it would become very, very easy.

The factions actually reduce the amount of whack-a-mole you play with your vassals. Previously, a single pissed off vassal would always rebel eventually, and you'd be forced to scrape together the levies to put down the rebellion. This happened irrespective of their relative power levels, so you'd have constant rebellions of far off vassals.

Now they don't do this anymore, as they're smart enough to take a look a the troop counts first, and realize they would be crushed. The factions also seem to have done away with the distance penalty, so you no longer have 80+ relation vassals who have a 50%+ chance to rebel for being too far away. That's made empire management more fun (unless you're not a fan of player blobbing... but yeah).

Sending large piles of cash at dissatisfied vassals still works, although that's really a temporary solution. Really, this game is about managing medieval relationships, so you should, as always, be working towards ways to make people like you.

Factions are a huge improvement as now every time a new ruler takes the throne there is not a mass of declarations or war. I was getting sick of spending the first 5 or 10 years of each reign fending off my vassals.

Doesn't that mean you will have to assinate vassal after vassal? Since if you o not defeat the rebellion a new faction will just form.

Nah, if you bribe or kill the leader of a faction it will usually disband. Then I just use it as a reminder to check my vassals and send a few trinkets to anyone who's less than 50 opinion of me. It works well for me.

Independence factions work differently though. They don't disband when you kill the leader. You have to take care of them as soon as they form. Either bribe, or kill them as soon as they pop up before anyone joins.

Of course this means that almost all of my money goes to gifts and assassins. I feel like Caligula.

No need to kill or bribe anybody in most cases - make use of your spymaster.

Spymaster just isn't effective enough short term. Usually when I resort to the above strategy it's because a faction is on the verge of rebelling right at the most inopportune time imaginable.

Isn´t that exactly what a smart human would do?

Yes, and personally I do not really mind that part. My problem with the independence faction is that as a huge Empire you get a rebellion after every damn succession. I would prefer to be challenged in other ways too. It should not be easy to run a huge empire like my Arabian Empire + Hispania + Sicily. Currently all challenges from factions are very predictable. For smaller kingdoms they seem to work pretty well though for making stuff itneresting.
